Beyonce- Halo (Dir: Phillip Andelman)
So much for every video being in B&W. Easily Beyonce's best video. A much more adult song and video compared to "Diva".
Sorry Melina
first of all, jay z probably spat out his caviar whilst watching this. he probably won't mind the ass shaking in the other videos, but here we have intimacy. and i like the moments that are created.
photography is incredible. the flare-iness is pointed to in the title of the track so doesn't feel too much.
i don't think beyonce has looked much better either. i like the natural look here.
that's the good stuff. the bad stuff- the fact that the video doesn't progress much or flesh anything out to a satisfying level, is probably a symptom of the budget more than anything else.
I personally think that Mr. Andelman is a class act and I guess under-rated to an extent.
over and out.
this video isn't terrible, but i am so ready for this woman to have a masterpiece already. all of her clips are missing something special or feel unresolved. 'single ladies' is the closest thing to a masterpiece for her, which is saying quite a bit. actually, mr. nava has treated her pretty well thus far...but where do you go after that?
Even if the song were titled "I have anamorphic lens flares coming from every window in my apartment" this would still be a bit much.
very nice, very pretty, and appropriately soft. solid video, would watch again. A++
;)

@ Milan- I think that single ladies is a masterpiece to be honest. one of the best videos of the year no doubt. working with the budget rather than against it- it made it's simplicity its strength- to the extent that if they have brought on 50 more dancers for a big finale it would have made the video worse, not better. If you know what I mean.
@ otc- lol.
ditto milan, otc & shatner2.
Love conquers you all!
doesn't quite elevate the song, but i think that's because the song is so stellar. an appropriate visual/audio pairing though.
reminds me of Jennifer Lopez's "Baby, I Love You" where she took the natural look approach.
hmmm. kinda not firing on all cylinders, if you ask me... nice imagery, solid camerawork, but to reiterate otc's point: a bit like being bludgeoned over the head with very deliberate expensive lens flair, and expecting that to translate into emotion. immaculately dusty yet clutter-free loft-style apartments? i sure as hell don't live in one...
