Unknown Artist/Song...
I'm trying to find an online video reference of a specific special effect that I know I've seen before but can't quite remember where...
It's very similar to the 'time travel' effect that happens near the end of Harry Potter 3. Basically the concept is: photographed time lapse street scenes. Say, 8 hours, resulting in a 15 minute clip. Then, on a green screen (with matching lighting) footage of a subject in subtle slow-motion (maybe 30fps) for about 15 minutes. The subject was composited into the time lapse BG so it's like she was graceful and slow while the world around her was blurring by.
Thoughts?
i dunno, something like this?
Um.... uk.youtube.com ?
Wow that Spice Girls bit reminds me of the Nike Couture films director by photographer/ vid director Kai Regan. See here: www.kairegan.com It may prove another good reference.
This video for Matchbook Romance also has that kind of thing going on: www.rockpaperscissors.com
That video keef mentioned for matchbook romance has one of the worst edits I've seen in a video in a long time.
The Arni&Kinski video for the Guillemots with McKellen?
And nb, a friend AD'd the A&K vid and IIRC the way they did it was not separately in a greenscreen studio with "matched" lighting - they just brought a portable greenscreen out onto the street. Shoot your 30-50fps, and your 6fps in same spot.
I did a fairly primitive version of this too in the "Last Words" video.
Alex,
I agree, shooting the real-time subject in the same evironment as our time lapse is way better from a compositing stand-point - but we have minimal control over the places we're shooting and the subjects will be doing some elaborate performances.
Also, we're hoping to encompass huge lighting shifts in the time lapse (sun setting, etc...) so I'd like to be able to match the movement and changes of the light sources on the subject - we're planning on building an elaborate 'setting-sun' rig on our green screen stage.
Thanks for all your input everyone, this really helps!
