"500 Days of Summer" trailer : Dir. Marc Webb

i stopped watching the trailer the 4th time the voiceover dude said "500 Days of Summer."
Yikes, that voiceover isn't doing it any favors. Looks typical of the mv-crossover problem, for some reason directors feel the need to throw in every trick in the book instead of just telling a story. But who knows...
otc
haha, well put
the voiceover is weird but I think this looks good. Who doesn't love Joe-Gord-Lev? And Zooey is cute. I love all the tricks and stuff; looks like fun.
Ah Antville...you gotta love the hate.
Aaron, your video is totally different. Yours is textured and nuanced and his has that douchemonkey from Maroon 5 in it. Totally different.
(And by douchemonkey, I mean mega-hunk, because I'd totally do a Maroon 5 video. Cha ching!)
In my book (and I know a lot of you don't care for my book) I think that Marc Webb is the greatest pop video director of the last several years. He's been able to fuse cool ideas with mainstream artists in a way that is unparalleled. Think about it, who else could make the Pussycat Dolls seem interesting?
Against the pantheon of Gondry, Jonze and Garth Jennings (and all the other masters of quirk) Webb may look pretty stiff, but he's nothing like his hack contemporaries.
When you compare him against the more traditional popmeisters like Dave Meyers, Joseph Khan, Hype Williams or Francis Lawrence, he's nothing like them. And that should bode well for his career.
All the "big" mv directors who have had rocky transitions to the the big screen have done so by focusing more on style and less on substance (Torque, the Hitcher, everything by McG etc.) And the good ones have been able to balance style with story (you know which ones I'm talking about).
From this trailer, it looks like there's a decent chance of a balance being struck. Joseph was badass in Brick and Zooey is every geek's dream. As a moviegoer, I hope it's good. Let's wish the best for him. The better he does, the better chance any of us may have.
well said... hup hup, But there was something offish about the trailer, like whats the story....
Hate the trailer. Hate the VO. Bored of Zooey and her interminable cute/quirky romantic interest roles. Don't give a shit about LA and 20somethings in trendy work environments. Love the camera tricks but can see those in convenient 3-minute chunks in music videos and they won't cost me $9 + popcorn.
I love Marc Webb but WHY a sub ETERNAL SUNSHINE rom/quirk/com? I hate that genre, it's like the default American indie-film setting.
I don't know if you've met Marc, Josh, but he revels in ripping off ideas from people. He admits to it, I've actually heard "Yeah I' ripped that off from..." more than once. If that's not the definition of a hack I don't know what is In MY book he's a little hit and miss, especially when it comes to true POP.
Aaron - And you rip off Wes Anderson, whats the difference?
Silliness. Everyone should just drop it before this gets any dumber.
budget's right. apologies.
missed this at sundance, but the word i heard was that it was pretty good.
this trailer reminds me of the 70's trailers from the VO, and the name of the film behind repeated over and over
and where the fuk is luk? why dont you shit on this trailer posting dude?
this is one of the worst trailers i've seen in a while
i actually liked the voice over for some reason.. i could tell they were hamming it up. and this trailer didn't irk me like most trailers do, it had a bit of fresh air to it.
