Though its possible too have this be a legit conceptual device, most of the time it's just oldsploitation and treating them like cute animals. I despise this in commercials especially, engaging people's sense of superiority with quaintly reductive views of people they would rather not try to understand. This also applies to adult commercials portraying kids and kids' commercial portraying adults. I don't buy the universality of aging as justification. It's like justifying misogyny by saying "well, I might be woman someday, with a bit of surgery."
