Little Boots - New in Town (Dir. Jake Nava)
director is jizzake nizzava
If ever there was an artist that required a 'pop' video. This is she. I hate to be a hater so I am going to stop there with that. I mean, they certainly chucked it all in here... and props for the ambition....
finally a video from Little Boots! but not for one of her best songs
if this was in fact directed by Jake Nava. evidence that the entire industry is hurting
Not sure what to think here. The concept is interesting and quite a coup for a director to get commissioned for this idea for so pop an artist. Plus, I like the song and the message is refreshingly different from my rims, my chains, my b*****s or some such. And yet the video doesn't quite work for me.
I want to like it more but I don't. Perhaps it's just too dark and edgy (if Jake Nava is indeed the director then this is the starkest I've ever seen one of his videos look). Additionally, the artist comes off looking almost too young for this kind of visual treatment (she's actually 25).
As a final point, Wikipedia has her quoted as saying, "I wanted to make a pop record. I don’t care about being cool or edgy. I wanna reach people and I wanna make music that people have fun to and have a good time." Well, if that's her target, this video, while interesting and well made, has pretty poor aim.

Piss poor poverty porn, not even the sentimentality of Nick Quested & Gil Green
was it shot with a cellphone?
west side story meets derelicht?
it looks like interlaced video..?
I just think Little Boots needs high gloss pop video. there's no shame in that game. making one of those is not easy in this climate as most people reading this know.
the derelicht/poverty porn statements are spot on.
This is not a video representative of the great white hope of British pop music.
True that,
I've checked out her EP and Little Boots (silly name) is seriously pop-talented. I'm looking forward to her full-length release.
