Kate Bush - The Red Shoes (from The Line, The Cross, The Curve)
In 1994 Kate Bush directed a 45 minute experimental film based upon her album "The Red Shoes", essentially an extended music video.
Legendary DP Roger Pratt shot, while longtime Gilliam associate Julian Doyle assisted. Lindsay Kemp, the man who taught her and Bowie how to dance, makes an appearance, as well as Miranda Richardson. Bush was collaborating for a time with Michael Powell, director of the original 1948 film. But he passed away and is memorialized in the heartbreaking "Moments of Pleasure" from the same album.
Bush would be quoted ten years later that it was "a load of bollocks". I'd say about 20 percent of it is reminscient of first film mistakes, but for a musician directed video moments of it are astounding and some of the imagery is incredible.
Don't miss the skull that says "yeah!"
Was never a fan of this stage of her career, well done as it was.
This however, still moves me every time...
