The XX 'Basic Space' - directed by Anthony Dickenson
The new track from London-based indie band The XX has a soft, otherworldly sound, so director Anthony Dickenson felt that this would be best complimented by a music video featuring ethereal and flowing imagery.
Anthony developed the idea from a previous experiment, in which he found that rotating objects on a turntable while shooting long exposure still sequences created an organic effect. This was integrated with live action performance to create the video. The band was shot within a simple lighting setup, and the lights and dripping water imagery were then animated.
Coincidentally, this style matched the water and cut-glass theme of the band’s artwork perfectly, resulting in a beautiful and relaxed music video.
