Moby - Mistake (dir: Yoann Lemoine)
Official video for Moby's new single "Mistake", directed by Yoann Lemoine
Entirely shot with Canon 5D MarkII
Wow. What incredible atmosphere. The video didn't skip a single beat for me. Granted, I love this kind of stuff, but it's still so exciting to see a promo that transcends it's acquisition format. Or, in other words, the video works so well I didn't give a flying f*** what it was shot on - it's great!

x-files!
sorry, but it looks like a student film about a guy chasing happy clouds. as i said many a time before, that camera is for photos or doco essays, not for shooting videos.
Wow I really liked it, reminds me of gus van sant and spielberg at the same time. The kid is great. Very good rythm. legion, you're a retard and you sound very pretentious, I really don't see the problem with 5D, the camera you use is not important at all, if it's a good film then it's a good film, period. Your argument is invalid. I'm sure if it wasn't mentionned you would never have noticed it was shot with it.
mos def
I have to say i don't really like this track and Moby in general, but the video is really the best Moby video I've ever seen.
legion have you actually shot with the 5D since the firmware update?
If so I'd love to hear why it is such a shitty option.
Only real negative I can come up with is it only shoots 30fps.
Well there are several problems with it, first issue is the 'jello' effect when you move too fast, because of this rolling shutter, ... there are some compression artefacts too, no RAW mode... But honestly, when you see the budgets and constraints in music video, Canon 5D is an amazing option. I have to say the moby video really moved me, I have no idea what where the conditions, days of shooting, but it looks much better than 99% of the actual music videos that look crap and cheap. And jackygo is right, the camera you use is not really important if you're a good director.
@macguffin - this photo camera is slightly better than my kodak pocket video camera, but only just. even my pocket camera shots hd, and it cost 150. i think we've already had this conversation on antville, or maybe it wasn't you?
very nice.
Nothing to write home about but nice photography
Can someone please tell me where the conversation about shooting with the 5D is.? While technically impressive I find this video pretty dull, it seems to be a vague pastiche of a number of different film references and with Moby moaning over the top (who I turned down after about ten seconds) it’s disappointingly bland. Does anyone know who the DOP is and if he has a website.?
Just watched it in HD, the focus is all over the place! I mean this is the problem isn't it, has anyone ever accurately pulled a 5D?
I liked it, very nice emotion.
vidbot : I don't really agree with you, I actually think the effects were very subtle and not really cliche. I see these scenes more like references than a pastiche. I noticed a lot of hidden things too, which I really like.
I think we all noticed the "hidden" things, this clip isn't very subtle it leads you by the hand.
well ok if you say so
