La Roux "I'm Not Your Toy"

Really Really Great Work A + but maybe too weird ?
Nonsense, this was great. Nicely shot, great casting, great production design, she looked good and she looked like she was having fun - nailed the brief on all accounts, well done.
Agreed. Loads of fun, and Ellie looked the best she has yet in videos. Felt a lot less stylistically forced than the previous Kinga efforts (although presumably A&L had a far bigger budget since La Roux's previous singles charted so well - to be fair to Kinga, she was working with very limited money on the first two vids). Ellie also looks a lot more comfortable/less stiff in front of the camera here, which improves the performance to no end.
And hurrah for the make-up person and costume designer, whoever they were. Top class jobs the both of them.
best vid of the month for sure! love it!
somewhere there is hope a music video to look like a music video, and not like some vaguely art-directed and poorly lit youtube viddie lacking in style - of course - but """"concept"""" heavy
ps: doesnt mean that i love the video, it's just that i appreciate the effort (& the budget)
pps: why does my writing spread like that all over the poage?
I like Alex and Liane... but this is boring. Don't know. Singing, dancing, sun glases - 80s style. Some random effects. Some "break/cut" in the music at the end of the clip. It looks good but its fucking boring. And the Song is boring, too.
i agree. looks nice but its so random that its not at all engaging
Yeah. go team Great
Sorry haters, this video is DOPE!
Beautiful photography, art direction, casting, makeup n' wardrobe. Tune is catchy too.
Looks big. Cinematic yet music video-y.
I agree that it has random elements, but it all works - I had fun trying to figure it out!
Love the shot of the dog snapping his head towards camera. Weird Superman prison style collar.
They had a mini alligator! Yes!
Plus, on top of it all, that singer looked like a wood nymph Tilda Swinton. Hot in a weird chick Conan O'Brien way.
Yah, La Roux ist der schitz.
If anything this one's less 80's than the prior clips. More like 70's German TV meets Fellini. Great suit too!
Agreed too, it's nice to see her crack a smile.
Nice clip, not earth shattering but...
- the tracks fun.
This is really really well done, tech credits are ace. Does what what it has to, for the crowd it pitched it to. Don't wanna see it again, but I appreciate it. I'm not a fan of hipsters.
I'm left not sure how I feel about this one. It's pretty solid and original but I also have no desire to watch again.
There's a lot to like about this video, but I do hate the usage of black people for no other reason than "they're random and weird". Wes Anderson does it. Eric Wareheim has forged an entire video career off it. And this video has it too. I think it's slightly acceptable here because of the whole jungle safari motif, but it's a stretch.
i love the stereograph viewer and the caustic patterns from the pool.
not crazy about this promo, but objectively its well executed and i'm sure the label + laroux are happy.
not sure why alex&liane haven't managed to break into commercials... ??
its always a mystery to me why certain mv directors stroll right into commercials and others have such a hard time.
I hardly think 'black people' are being used because they're random and weird more than any other extra in this video. That argument is inherently racist in itself for gods sake. They're extras cast in London and blow me if they're not a cross section of the ethnic diversity this city provides. Cast for their quirks, maybe, but that ain't nothing to do with race. That's like saying white eccentric blokes with handlebars moustaches are being exploited in this. Jeezarse.
F**kin great video.
good enough. track is not as catchy as her bulletproof but hey: would we have been happy about such an video if it would have been in times when MTV didn't send pimpshows? YES!
nice & original.
the saving grace with this video is that it comes to an end, otherwise it'd be like being stuck in purgatory with whacky artistes, whacky narcissists, whacky glasses and whacky CG.
I dig it, a video finally has some movement, originality and pace and some people rip it to shreds.
I like it too and that's despite the fact that I don't think the track is strong. It's always nice to see a little ray of sunshine and hope in our very bleak video landscape. This put a smile on my face and I got to see some really cool images/ideas get executed. I'm good with it and it's easily one of the best things I've seen in the last few weeks.
