I'm sorry but this reeks of everything that is wrong with the Australian film industry. Mainly that the majority of directors that are supported by the Australian industry are actually boring, conservative and completely behind the rest of the world. Any young directors of any interest from Australia are forced to have their reputations verified overseas before they receive even a glimmer of interest from Australian production companies and producers.
Interesting and talented Music video directors that have all been supported and are represented in the US or Europe like Kris Moyes, Nabil, Krozm, King Burza and Family have all gone almost completely unnoticed within the Australian industry.
Wake up Australia!
cool ass video tho
'eyeswideopen', 1stly, i really enjoy JK's work, and don't really agree this is the best example to be supporting your argument.
but you're spot on with everything else. Sadly, this applies to the film, creative and advertising industries as a whole here in Aus.
Everyone wants to play it safe. Why else at any given time are there dozens of tv spots running on aus television that all look like they could have been shot by the same director?
But i don't think it is always up to the creatives, or the director. They are merely working within the many constraints, doing what they have to do to earn a buck.
Like you said, the ones like Burza, Moyes etc, who easily can but clearly refuse to do the status quo barely do any local work here.
pretty, prettty, prettty bad, pretty bad
