K.TV - Die Musikvideobar v.2

well, I thougt, it might be better to tell you more about "K.TV" in a comment.. For quite a long time I'm interessted in the field of musicvideos. In 2008 i started to do a monthly musicvideo-evening at a small bar here in Lucerne called "musikvideobar". The concept was pretty easy: I was just showing musicvideos. In 2009 I joined a collective (called korsettv) and together with some of the guys we changed the concept massively and turned "musikvideobar" into "k.tv", a live-musicvideo-show. Now we do have a host, categories, trailers, a well assambled program. we are not only showing the videos, we also give the audience as much background information as possible. Next to the monthly live-show, we also do have a website.
The legal situation for showing musicvideos in public is quite complicated, so we decided to ignore those facts and just do it.. Actually i always wanted to change this situation and try to get permissions for the videos we are planning tho show. But i soon had to realise, that this would become a major job (next to the work i put into collecting the videos, searching for background infos and reading books and articles about musicvideos). so we had to decide between quit doing it or going on the way we always did it. we decided to chose the second option, because we really love musicvideos and we think that it is worth presenting them to a wider audience. And to be honest, I think copyright issues always have to do with moral aspects as well (next to legal aspects) and considering moral aspects, I think we are on the right side..
well, what do you (specialy the producers and directors) think of that (the legal issues). is it ok for you to not ask for permission or are you pissed, that some guys from Switzerland are showing your videos without asking..? I'm really not quite sure how to handle that..
you ought to ask ketih schofield about this videos.antville.org
my advice would be to always get in touch with the directors, prod houses and the labels, but it depends on who's the copyrights holder. but in most cases im sure youll enter into some kind of blanket agrement. it also depends if you show these videos in a commercial or non-commercial enterprise if you want, ive got a couple of label publisher contacts.....';?
its funny, the keith-schofield-debate sort of "inspired" me to do write this post..
but thank you for your advice! i think i will start now to get in touch with labels, production-companies etc. but as you say, it's not always sure, who the copyrightowner is.. if you could give me some contacts would be great! (Email
we do charge a small entry fee of 5.- swiss franks (thats about 3 euros or 5 us-dollars).
i sent you the list as for the rest, im not the most informed person; maybe youd want to get in touch with the people who organize something like the BUG nights etc
thanks for your mail and for the "bug"link! it's funny to see, that they seem to have the same taste like we do.. (and cool to see, that other people are doing the same! didnt find anything on the net.. until now!)
