Brad Pitt Producing New Dracula Film, Anthony Mandler in talks to Direct
Brad Pitt has been in the vampire game before, having starred in 1994's "Interview With the Vampire," and now the star is set to produce the film "Vlad" with "Twilight" studio Summit. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will center on the life of Dracula when he was still the prince known as Vlad the Impaler.
The film has been in development with Summit for quite some time, and the studio is now in talks with music video director and photographer Anthony Mandler to make his debut helming a feature. Most recently Mandler worked with Rihanna on her clips "Wait Your Turn" and the eerie "Russian Roulette."
Pitt will reportedly produce the flick with Dede Gardner and their company Plan B Entertainment. writes that the studio hopes to make "a visually edgy and radical period movie" that, like "Twilight," will help break the careers of new actors. Studio executives at Summit are looking to bring Mandler on board after seeing his work and comparing it to Zack Snyder's "300." No casting news has been announced yet.
Mandler recently shot "New Moon" star Taylor Lautner for Men's Health, telling MTV News how much he enjoyed working with the teen sensation. "We wanted to be really physical. We really wanted to show the physical side of him rather than play him as a kid," he explained, adding that instead he was trying to show Taylor "as more of a man. ... We had a blast."
Mandler later joked that his choice between Team Edward and Team Jacob was easy. He's obviously Team Jacob. "It was great. He's a great guy. I'd work with him anytime," he said. "I'm biased at this point right now. I'm excited to see ["New Moon"] even though it's a little out of my age bracket. I enjoyed the last one."
er, why did you post this?
Because of Mandler, obvs.
its a good post. its relevant
shut up familiar. it's not a music video, its a bit of trivia. practically a whole page of trivia.
so is it ok to now post semi-music-video-related-blurbs?
guess it must be, obvs.
offtopic: i have yet to see a dracula-inspired movie to show not only the legend, but also the historical truth. this post doesn't belong here, have you tried facebook or twitter?
Mandler sucks. Why even bother.
Seriously though, why is Mandler regarded. Does anyone have any serious ideas, because I'm really tired of him. He's a photographer, but his videos aren't that great.
Any ideas?
he's in the right circles. simple as that.
He seems to be a decent guy (link), but I'm not a fan of his work wouldn't put him in the top tier of directors (like Francis Lawrence).
I think his videos look great. But I wouldn't say he's an idea guy. But not all movies need idea guys.
His videos suck, mostly. Why not just say it.
kevathens, are you sure you're not just jealous because he's met
Ewwy. That crossed a line, I'd imagine.
@kevathens ...really? Francis Lawrence should have NEVER made a movie.
Not saying that I'd like to see Anthony Mandler make anything else.
^This is very disturbing, this picture.
Mandler can't get any hate, he's moving up in the business leave the qualifications to the critics. Now about the pic...
Yes fluffer, people have been doing it on here regularly for years. When a successful MV director (regardless of if they suck or not) does something of note, someone frequently posts about it. It's called music video-related discussion, and as you can see, there has been a fair bit of it generated as a result of this post. Welcome to Antville.
Also agree with Kev that he isn't the best director, and also agree with bryanmatic that Francis Lawrence should never have made a movie.
Speaking of -- who are some directors that SHOULD be getting movie contracts based on their background in videos and commercials?
I am Legend was really solid. Not perfect by any means, but considering it was a Will Smith sci-fi film with Zombies - it was a pretty enjoyable ride. Constantine was more of a letdown; it had cool parts but the script and Keanu were just not that great. But overall, Francis is leagues above Mandler. (not dissing mandler, just saying Francis Lawrence is a technical virtuoso and he's got some creative ideas).
Ah yeah maybe you're right. He really didn't have much to work with in either case. The movies were well executed, to be fair. I just didn't like either of them.
Edit: Would love to see Dougal Wilson direct something beyond a short film. Mainly because it probably wouldn't be an over-wrought and/or effects heavy sci-fi/fantasy gig, like most mv directors end up being offered.
Twilighted- Dracula.
Vlad The Virgin? Holy shit.
I haven't seen Francis' movies yet. I love his videos, though.
"Let The Right One In" is easily the most impressive contemporary vampire film.
I'd recommend watching it before the inevitable American re-make
It's beautifully crafted. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch Twilight after seeing that, I know I'd be dissapointed.
Twisting the table. I think it would be interesting to see Tomas Alfredson direct a music video.
Seconding the Let The Right One In recommendation. Brilliant film.
thirding.
