WHAT HAPPENED!!!!?
WHAT HAPPENED TO MUSIC VIDEOS?
Anyone remember when videos where good? when videos had actual content and where about something....and not just the latest indie had to dig through some blog to find video...videos on MTV.
I look at this site and it just makes me sad. Lame gimmicks and visual tricks are the only things even half interesting, and they are just that...cute visual tricks...what happened to videos being about something? Now all I see are a bunch of hipsters who don't have anything inside of them so all they can put out is some Ironic take on the 80's. Not to generalize everyone, some people are tryin, but its few and far between
geez remeber when karen o wasn't trying to be a celebrity, made decent music and spike jonze wasn't busy selling his soul to urban outfitters...ahh those were the days.
Even the fucking foo fighters had fun videos.
this had to be the first video that I liked in a long while. good work, really impressive. VVVVV
dude, find an old tape of MTV from 1995, and sit down and watch 2 hours of videos. Those Gondry and Jonze clips were few and far between. Most alternate videos looked like this:
lots of filters, cut to stock footage, ironic shit, etc.
A big budget video like Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" was considered by many to be one of the greatest videos ever made. Watch it today; it's okay - but hasn't aged well.
And then mainstream rap all looked like this:
Nice film, definitely no 99 Problems.
And so, you're basically picking like 10 of the best clips over the course of 10 years. But you're definitely selectively remembering how good the stuff was. I'm assuming you were in high school during the 90s, and remember music videos as fondly the way one would remember being young fondly. But that doesn't mean they were all good.
MTV's top hits of 1995. 2 or 3 classics, but mostly garbage.
This post is either a joke or hilariously wrong on every level.
yeah. you're just too lazy to search for the good stuff nowadays. you should be glad that music television is dead and there's no institution left telling you which video rocks and which doesn't (i don't consider antville as an institution...). in the end music videos are about the music, so stop crying (or is it an obvious joke that i don't get...)
HEY, DO YOU REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS? WHEN VIDEOS WERE GOOD? IN THE OLD DAYS? MAN. I MISS THE OLD DAYS. THEY ARE NOT AS GOOD AS THE NEW DAYS.
DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN DAYS WERE THIS GOOD?
OR HOW ABOUT THESE DAYS? WHEN VIDEOS USED TO MEAN SOMETHING?
EVERYTHING IS JUST ABOUT CUTE VISUAL TRICKS NOW. WHAT ABOUT THESE DAYS? THESE WERE GOOD. AND OLD.
NICE VIDEO. CERTAINLY NO 99 PROBLEMS.
THESE SURELY WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS. NO IRONIC 80S VIDEOS.
uh shut up y'all! i like my mtv stuff. i like the 90ies stuff. the good ol' stuff. now dance.
maybe what he meant was that people used to get paid, you know
i love it when this site gets silly. beats watching some of the stuff posted. its a different generation for music video makers now, the money aint there, kids, so stuff isnt as epic or high end, but the creativity is. the only real issue is that anyone can make a video and anyone can be a 'director' so the benchmark is a lot lot lower than the good old days and production value is not as good. but....there ARE some great videos being made, you just have to look harder in the pile.
geez the guy who started this sounds like my dad hey its ok to be scared buddy times change, people get old, lose touch, like when your grandma claims music has gone down hill sense the beatles is that true? wake up smell the coffee and go make something that fulfils you instead of wasting time moaning
Kids these days...
IT IS GOOD BECAUSE IT IS OLDER I DON'T LIKE WHAT IS NEW
Amen y'all! That Eddie Murphy track is slammin'! :) If only we had hundreds of thousands of dollars to match that gold standard. -j
GEEZ, REMEBER WHEN KAREN 0 WASN'T TRYING TO BE A CELEBRITY, MADE DECENT MUSIC AND SPIKE JONZE WASN'T BUSY SELLING HIS SOULD TO URBAN OUTFITTERS...AHH THOSE WERE THE DAYS.
what-evurrrr. 1920s, thats where it was at! silent films, pure expression. now there is all this color and dialogue and sound. ugh. such a cop out!
