This is such a perfect example of how we're going through an HD Puberty right now. The bar/karaoke scenes have no character to them, it just looks like the average, unnaturally sharp Sony HD Handycam footage.
Eventually, I hope filmmakers will wise up to the fact that straight HD footage is only good for a few things, and you need to work on it pretty meticulously if you want to do it right.
A good attempt, though. :)
