Drake "Find Your Love" : Dir. Anthony Mandler

I like the attempt and kinda liked the video. It falls a bit short for me though. The performance scenes in the studio really don't seem to mesh with the rest of the vibe and I felt like the city/environment cutaways were overused; they began to feel more like a crutch to prop up the visuals.
Another gripe I had was the casting of the big baddie. Now, for all I know, that guy is an actual Kingston thug but he didn't inspire fear or dread at all. I couldn't help but think of my scrawny younger cousin in his Rasta days when he rocked the pants falling off look.
According to Mandler's Twitter, the version airing is not his preferred version, dunno if this is. As for the video, I do not like Drake (no personality) as an artist or rapper, he's a long mile from it, and the video's a mishmash of ideas which don't cohese. Anthony Mandler is also not on the cohesion label, and he's done better work than this. Drake looks out of place, he should be with white chicks in the lower east side.
Studio? how great Drake is? one video. Jamaican folks? love story? meh. I've seen it before, and tired of jamaincan stereotypes.
Color me unimpressed. I'm sure it's not hip to hate on drake.
what the fuck, can't watch this for more than 15 secs... it looks pretty and all, i just can't take drake seriously...
I'd like to rephrase the statement, for purposes of not being a typical unconstructive user.
My problem with the video is not that is high profile, as Drake "is". It's that Drake's persona does not fit within the box. And that's the Director's fault, and the record label's fault. In fact, everything Drake has done seems to fit him into something he is not, he's like a Kid Curry without the hipster cred.
As Anthony Mandler is known as a good director, (don't know why), it's a mismatch of material, Jamaica / Hoods ect. When done well, it works. Iconography is important, which captures the essence of what an artist is about.
Drake is not on that level, what the big deal is? anyone can be star if they align with the right people. And the video is awkward when it should be gritty, forced when it should be romantic. It's those cliches that make me question "is that the best they could come up with?" I'm sure some of you ask the same questions as we strive to make it better. Or not.
this has to be mandler's version. weed, etc.
i'm a mandler apologist but this is a little too OTT.
in conclusion: booty.
