Klaxons - "Echoes" (Dir. Saam)
wow thats disappointing. makes them look like sub-MGMT or sub-empire of the sun. followers instead of the trend-setters they used to be.
well, I liked the Mad Max look, but then nothing happened..
I actually liked this quite a bit. Great camera work.
Great performance video, sometimes a zoom lens is enough. Give that 1st AC a cookie.
Nice looking video. Klaxons were NEVER trend setters. Always were an EMF-redux.
lovely location, vimeo.com link.
Holy shit! Was that meant to be a joke?
please.. have klaxons and saam ever done a video together that's meant to be serious and earnest?
"In the beginning there was only light...in the end, there was nothing" i think there's a degree of sincerity intended in that?
that's cute.
this is awesome
Its a faux performance video in the desert, with white grand piano (on fire no less)... guys dressed as madmax bohemians rockin out with the upmost of sincerity. The best bit is when they put their heads together in prayer. If you are not in bewildered hysterics when watching this than there is something seriously wrong with your judgement.
I mean I really love Saam's work and obviously thumbs up for technique and the cinematography is 'nice' but really WTF?
The only way I can understand this is if it was some sort of comic parody of an obvious cliche rock video.
i dont get it
i dont like the camera work at all; im sure they rehearsed the moves and set up like hell, but it still looks chaotic and wobbly too many pans and zooms
love it, now thats how you shoot a set in a desert video...most videos would go for the boring crane and helicopter shots and tons of light and lensflares....
The camera work is incredibly high degree of difficulty in this... it was a directorial choice to do a handheld look (at least handheld looking) and to pull that off doing rack zooms and long-lens follows from (presumably) a car or ATV is incredibly difficult. You may not approve of the aesthetic, but the camera operator and the 1st AC deserve an entire box of cookies.
Obviously the label saw it necessary to show Klaxons performing as they've been in some sort of cave since their last album/tour...
But this was quite bad, it looks like they're imitating hipster-tribe-future-mystic-fashion trends from a year or two ago (though special problems have been trying hard to keep it alive with their last video)... and the music hasn't changed since their last album.
I assumed this wasn't Saam when I first saw it, as I would think he would be able to think of a more unique direction to take them in.
