Ford Fiesta - "This is Now" / “The Mole Man” by SchwaB (directed by Scott Lyon, NOT Michel Gondry)
Creative team was Andy Bird (art) and Sue Higgs (copy) with Camilla Herberstein as creative director. The spot was directed by Scott Lyon from Outsider films. The music is “The Mole Man” by Schwab.
Now, the mantra of Michel Gondry is to choose quantity over quality, because quantity stays while quality fades away but it seems director Scott Lyon took (and I do mean took) Gondry's style too far by stealing clips from The Director's Series, Vol. 3 and Mr. Lyon gets the paycheque from Ford. Basically copying his style and even his musical choices (e.g. that SchwaB song sounds awfully too close to The White Stripes) makes me want to go wash myself with DVD copies of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Was it a homage to Gondry? Creative plagiarism? Will I eat breakfast tomorrow? THESE QUESTIONS NEED ANSWERING!
Seriously?! I've seen this ad on tv loads and not once have I thought Gondry. It's just a load of fun comedy match cuts. Gondry doesn't have the monopoly on absurdist match cuts.
Be serious man!
another dull rant about where something came from. add it to the pile.
it's a long post danziger: what's the motivation here? and, really, what's the point?
nice ad.
First 15 seconds... ripped off Let Forever Be by Chemical Brothers (directed by Michel Gondry)
Chemical Brothers - Let Forever Be from duelecerebro blogspot com on Vimeo.
At the 20 second mark, Scott Lyon steals concept from Michel Gondry again - Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World
At the 28 second mark - stop motion style similar to Hardest Button to Button (not a steal but close) - White Stripes - also directed by Michel Gondry:
THE WHITE STRIPES - THE HARDEST BUTTON TO BUTTON from Lance Bangs on Vimeo.
At the 30 sec mark... The White Stripes again - The Denial Twist - ALSO directed by Michel Gondry:
I really don't want to dissect any further... these people need to behold (beheld?) beheld accountable for Gondrying their music video! Zut alors!
so we've settled it.
danziger = gondry. budget = hype. senilitynow = rage.
I am not gondry. I don't know who I am but I definitely know I am not gondry. As for hype, that is Facebook's job. As for senilitynow... isn't that a Seinfeld quote?
Hey, I resent that! I know I am not Michel Gondry.
Do I seem like I am repeating myself?
The ad's just a collection of classic camera tricks and match cuts. Go back and watch Melies. And stop wasting our time.
P.S. it's "be held" (two words) ; )
Bah, am I the only person crying foul (fowl?) about the Ford Fiesta - Michel Gondry connection, or as you say... lack there of?
You're honestly telling me this didn't come from the viral strain of Musee de Gondry?
ˆyawn
looks more like an ace norton rip to me anyway ;)
That ad is related to Michel Gondry's earlier work when he was in the musical group Oui Oui:
Michel Gondry has a cardboard fetish, and now Ford is just going to drive away with his creative works and take all the credit? I say to Ford blah! Blah! BLAH!
Tell me more; this gondary guy seems really interesting...
SERENITY NOW! SERENITY NOW!
ANTVILLE IS FUCKING DEAD, CUNTS.
Antville is dead? Long live Antville! Long live the Directors Label, too!

wtf
Exactly, pancho.
wilco tango foxtrot.
• This ad is awesome. Great work, Scott, Ogilvy, Ford.
• If this is a Gondry rip-off, than anything with stop motion, large masks, people duplication, or just a playful, artistic quality (all things that Gondry didn't invent in the first place) can be considered a Gondry rip-off.
• I don't want to live in a world where using techniques that have been around since the beginning of photography automatically mean that you're ripping off some French guy who did a few Bjork videos in the 90s.
• I'm getting tired of this place being the originality police.
• I'm Scott Lyon.
At 0:48, a total rip from Lucas With the Lid Off, which is also directed by Michel Gondry. I don't think you're Scott Lyon... yet:
