Wavves - King of the Beach (dir. Focus Creeps/Aaron Brown and Ben Chappell)
Now THAT is how you do a lifestyle 5D video. Good edit, captured the vibe of the song, never boring. (though I wouldn't have been mad at a hot chick if they had one show up)
what do you mean 5D?
canon
...7D?
yeah maybe, surely not 5D. here's the quicktime: www.focuscreeps.com
I guess I meant "DSLR" - 5D, 7D, Nikon, Pentax, whatevs...sheesh.
And to explain further, I think people generally use this type of camera because it's cheaper than others. When combined with popular low-budget concepts (lifestyle videos, no stage / all practical locations, no actors outside of the band, no lights, handheld, mediocre looking girls, forests, deserts, a house in Los Feliz), I tend to get bored. I guess my attention span is really waning.
A lot of these DSLR videos look the same to me for some reason. Especially the quasi-Terrence Malik ones. (Somebody tell these guys Terry can get away with it because he takes years and has guys like John Toll shooting for him - who by the way doesn't do much "tilt-shift" from what I've noticed).
Of course SOME directors use DSLR effectively. I just think that MOST don't.
I think this video is cool though. Nothing forced. (Seems like a lot of dudes are really throwing it in and out of focus for no-particular reason)
That was chopped up mushrooms in the pill vile right? Loved how sparkly they made it seem.
haha just messing with ya
No prob @Pancho.
I just went on a DSLR rant.
good one too.
yup. all true
Doesn't matter to me what format the video was shot on as long as it's good. People who focus on the format and not the content should go suck a dick. That's for DP's and knitpickers.
That said, I'm inclined to agree with Nickygoose that the format works best in practical situations. It enables more videos to be made, and has high quality (albeit compressed) image at a very low price. Hype Williams is not using it well, but I've seen great stuff left and right.
It's all about the videos, I'm just saying. So if it was shot on Red would it be any different?
yes
99.9% of lifestyle videos shot on DSLR's are completely and utterly boring, this one included. A sad state affairs for 2011.
Lifestyle videos? Let's just call them what they are: no budget videos.
Anyone who's using these videos as some sort of yard stick for measuring the "decline of music videos in 2011" needs to remember that there have always been boring, no-budget music videos for indie bands.
I've seen a lot of very interesting no - low budget videos for indie bands. DSLR's have simply given a lot would be directors the excuse to make videos about nothing and I'm not talking about Seinfeld.
agree with what u said
true, true…
Whatevs to this entire thread. You guys are full of it.
here's a fine example of a DSLR put to good use.
