Radiohead - "You and Whose Army" (Director: Denis Villeneuve)

I swear I have no ties to this movie whatsoever. The opening sequence featuring this Radiohead song is pure magic. One of the best non-music video music videos I've seen... Go watch Denis Villeneuve's "Incendies" this month. This is the actual opening sequence.
fxck yeah. saw Incendies at Sundance this year and got the chills during this, actually just watched it again and the same thing happened. this is cream.
Thank baby Jesus. I'm glad I'm not alone here. What was the reception like at the Sundance screening? Just curious.
on the basis of the overkilling effect of the use of this track for this scene of a movie, I will be sure not to see this film (if the subject matter is what it looks to be, ie. some sort of exploration of islamist extremism at its source?). it's one thing to aim for chills in a music video, another to paint a movie. (i'm judging without context, to be sure, but that's how this struck me.)
@progosk huh? ud sound less stupid if u shared your thoughts after youve seen the movie. this aint no 'paradise now', no 'train to pakistan' either
@the ones who actually saw the movie - worst use of radiohead music - the 'le sud' episode; makes it look touristy, like a 'lonely planet' promo
interesting how you always feel the need to coat your thoughts in shit&bile, matei. why so angry?
for the same reason you feel like having an opinion about things you know shit about. i.e. this movie
which makes you, for the umptienth time, a google scholar; i might be wrong in calling you this, but hell, ive never actually known you. if you get my drift, say hey and fuck off
as the director says himself, this is an apolitical movie. the plot is quite complicated and there's an incredible twist at the end of the film, so i won't go in the detail. but "Incendies" is one of my favorite films from the past 5 years, at least.
this is what he had to say about the use of radiohead's song, in his own words, if you're interested: "That first scene is actually the first thing I wrote in the screenplay. YOU AND WHOSE ARMY has the kind of emotions, melancholy and a kind of operatic feeling to it that I wanted to capture in that scene. That song was written in the screenplay since day one, and I was always worried that I would never get the rights to it. It’s such a dream to have this song in the movie."
"Radiohead told me that it wasn’t about the money; they just had to be sure that it was an appropriate film for the song. I don’t know whom, exactly, but someone from the band saw a rough cut of the film, liked it and agreed to let me use the song. I don’t know which member or members of the band saw it, but I do know that they said, “Yes.” It was a huge gift. I was waiting by the phone for two weeks to get an answer back from them. It was a beautiful moment when they called."

i use google to play, and to data-mine, not to think. as i said, I might well be wrong about the movie's overall effect, and about its deeper intentions. my reaction was to the clip, and my comment was to the effect: i hope the movie doesn't play this to emo-core overkill.
be that as it may, since civility ain't your code, i'll happily oblige you legion: hey, fuck off.
I have no idea what's causing it but Antville seems to be a community in decline; it's become much less pleasant to visit this site recently. If we all value this place then perhaps the long time members can lead by example and focus on the positive.
Like moms often say, "if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all". After all, on a site like this silence is the most damning condemnation anyway (nothing is worse than seeing your video with '0 comments').
I'm also guilty of being overly critical. I'll work on toning it back. Again, maybe we all should if we want to preserve the quality of this place.
