Michel Montecrossa is not the problem.

I think limiting text length to only credits - maybe even a credit form and not allowing images would help resolve the clutter.
In terms of content, this is going to be a hard thing to regulate with out a moderator or set of moderators - unless antville were to adapt some sort of user voted front page, similar to reddit.
Man, imagine how awesome this would be if people didn't post videos as press releases - but rather just fans who REALLY liked something and wanted to share it. So many no-name bands, no-name directors, boring videos that are obviously posted by the creators.
actualy, my only problem is michael montecrossa, am fine with everything else
Hi there, I am not Michel Montecrossa. I am exactly a person who REALLY likes his music. I'm also a person who thinks it's the most boring thing in the world to argue about musical taste and preferences, it's clear that musical tastes are different and it would be really annoying if they were not- therefore I turned off the comments. I respect community and will post from now on only video links without any further text.
@ my name is legion: i agree 100% to you
@southernwinds: its not a question about music and/or taste - video.antville is a page about cool MUSICVIDEOS and Michel M. dont make MUSICVIDEOS, thats it. Please post the Songs at e.g. www.esoterikforum.at - this will fit more for you.
hi southern - cool of you to stop by, and thanks for your thoughts & future adjustments; the 'ville's a pretty varied/storied place, at heart...
Directors posting links to their own work, even if it's rudimentary, is what antville has always been about.
Pictures should be allowed, in fact more people should be posting thumbnails with links instead of youtube/vimeo embeds. I'm amazed that more people don't understand the important of picking a good thumbnail image to generate actual clicks on their video. Creativity always does a good job of picking thumbnails / taglines for videos, look at their homepage. (creativity-online.com)
i'm all for embedding because is quicker to post. but otc has a point because if the thumbnail sucks, there's a slim chance i'm clicking to watch the video. it's up to the uploader to choose a proper thumbnail for their videos on u2b, vimeo, etc. or to the poster to upload some pics. good example: videos.antville.org some posts don't even have pics or embeds, just links to youtube. you scroll right past them…
i'm most annoyed by autoplays and long credits (that stuff belongs in the comments thus keeping the homepage nice and tidy). maybe a character limit in the description box?
as to autoplays, i think it's just a matter of time until people always remember to turn it off. just have to keep politely reminding them through the comments. it has worked so far…
I 2nd OTC.
Michael Montecrossa's videos don't bother me much even though I am not into them. I just skip them.
I am more concerned with non-music videos, reposts, etc. :/
The length of the displayed text on the start page could be limited to a preview of x characters easily, but then you would have to click to view photos and embedded videos. I guess most people would regard such a change a considerable deterioration.
I don't mind lenghty credits (althought some might better fit to the comment section), but autoplay, reposts, lame parodies, live recordings and non-music videos are a nuisance.
i agree to antdude & kinomu. the reposts, live recordings and non-music videos are really annoying.
kino: is there anything code-side to be done to discourage autoplay=1?
re: thumbnails - the cleverest of video creators know that youtube uses the frame at the exact midway point of the video by default, and choose the right scene in the edit. (not sure what vimeo's default is.) choosing & uploading the right thumbnail is bespoke posting etiquette that only alpha videogeeks will observe, alas...
as regards limited text in post... it's a common measure for blogging platforms. personally, i've always found that the somewhat uncommon befits the 'ville better.
no character limit, man this ain't tweeter the wordier, the happier
My only suggestion would be to have the monthly best of's on a devoted page so that infrequent visitors can get caught up on the best releases quickly. Might also help to scratch the curation itch being described. Also, messaging Michael and asking him to cool out is probably easier than recoding the site.
jesse: the monthly faves posts are archived here; it might well be an idea to make them more directly accessible, at the very least by sideboxing the link. best faves regest might be a dedicated youtube/vimeo channel - or even a 'ville faves tumblr, if there's a way to make that automatic-yet-content-rich, whatthink?. As regards site content selection, foreseeably the 'ville will only ever be crowd-curated: keep the bar high by posting better stuff (and even better comments)! Meantime, Michel's poster has promised to make amends.
