DJ Danger Mouse: Bush Boys
Everyone seems all excited about DJ Danger Mouse's new The Grey Video. While certainly good, I like his his "Bush Boys" single with the video done by the excellent Submedia TV. In this edgy, well cut music video he dresses down W and his dad, making a strong statement about militarism.
Yet another track from DJ danger suck that is nothing less than campy awfulness.
AKB thinks this is an "edgy, well cut music video done by the excellent Submedia TV". I think it's the blueprint of how not to edit a music video -- that not only weakens it's own 'militaristic statements', but is just downright boring to watch.
Why the fuck do we have barely readable statistics appear on screen for a fraction of a second? Why is there more time spent on seeing bush go forward and backward and forward again in this amateurish editorial approach that remains entirely cheap and useless? What kind of "strong statement" is being made when the filmmakers can't even focus on their own message? How is this promo any different than riot porn?
The problem with all these 'video activists' is that they all have a lot of heart but such little talent (and minmal focus beyond this elusive idealist view of the world). Even their use of multichannel is unsuccessful. Why segment unnecessary unneeded frames to no avail? And what is going on with all these colors? Take a moment and figure it out first.
Thumbs down.
gotta agree completely with lusk81 on this one. As much as I, personally, enjoy Danger Mouse's work on the Grey Album...this track itself falls much short. And with a lame track, it's hard to be convinced that visuals for a song's promo can be successful...regardless of how solid or weak the execution is. With plenty of footage that could serve its purpose...there isn't much of a build up for that message conveyed. Nothing else is delivered through the format the director/editor has established...and if the audio is muted, what we see is a KMFDM video(or a video for any random early nineties industrial band). Also, for doing a guerilla/activist video-based project,it doesn't give anyone permission to make it look like a slapped together, amateurish rush-job, especially for a topic that's been covered thousands of times, and have been executed well. The Grey Video was a better example of a guerilla video, in which a non-budgeted promo that's not supposed to exist has been executed beautifully. Whatever Submedia has shown us through this promo is short of anything excellent, and any statement made about the administration's militarianism has been shy of anything strong. We've wasted time loading up this large movie file, wasted time watching it, wasted time not enlightened of anything new, and wasted time writing how everyone else is aware how this piece is unsuccessful
