Metallica: The Unforgiven (Long version) Directed by Matt Mahurin
What?? No videos from Matt Mahurin here?? In this case, let's make his antville debut with this 1991 classic, which can be seen either as the director's magnum opus, or simply the greatest video on Earth (stick with the later opinion). If it's a bit too enthusiastic, let's just say that it's a marvellous video with extraordinary cinematography, and a very special kind of storytelling.
Two versions were made, this is the complete, 11:38 mins long director's cut.
wmv stream here
from when was this, '91 or '02 (both dates appear)?
quite fascinating, though a little long-winded. (shame about the measly little wmv - the photography's nice&dense - and about the track: perhaps some sigur ros might be a good fit.)
it's too bad this video is stuck in 4:3 aspect ratio. 2:35 or 16:9 would suit it much better. great photography, terrible track. i would rather here debbie gibson than metallica.
same mahurin? sounds fascinating... here's the menu.
I have always found that to be one of the most artistic videos. I remember seeing that when I was 13 and for some reason it scared me to death. Thanks for posting the long version. It explains the idea of the story significantly more than the TV version. Mahurin is truly a master when it comes to lighting. Does anybody have any idea what the face on the cover to the tunnel is? I have always found that to be one of the most bizarre images.
Nice cinematography (not that i can really tell on this version) but i wouldn't call this the greatest video on earth. The idea is ok but as progosk said it's 'long winded'. It is 'very special story telling' in that it may be interesting to the mentally handicapped or to an overly romantic film student from the early 90's. p.s nice to see that progosk is able to string more than two words together these days. Congratulations!
