erm... please explain, k, why this is of any interest at all.spit, 1. September 2006, 00:45
Yeah, there isn't any stop motion, and the band isn't a bunch of bearded dudes from the midwest. So not interesting. In all seriousness, this is a pretty nice piece. Self-referential, well photographed, and understated. The way Kanye doesn't rap his own lines reminds me of the Clipse video where Pharrell just nods his head while a video model lip synchs his lines. Real real.

I'm confused as to why Progosk comments on rap vids at all sometimes.progosk, 1. September 2006, 01:13
wait a sec. there was definitely some beard in there...erm... maybe it's because i refuse to believe rap is necessarily destined to shutter itself into its genre-corner like, say, science fiction. great science fiction - admittedly rare stuff - transcends its (perceived) limits, and i expect the same of great rap (vids). the rest is dross and umbilicology.

Or, just for arguments sake, maybe it doesn't conform to your rock-based standards.Just for the sake of argument...
progosk, 1. September 2006, 02:01
as long as it's not this same argument...call me what you see fit, but ideologist? nuh-uh.

shame you feel that way, Kanye aparently thinks you're lovely...swampgirl, 1. September 2006, 18:19
...And I'm sure yr expression of impotent fury doesn't look the least bit weird, but hey, we all have our personal issues. And personally I'll own to holding possibly beard-based guitar-slinging preferences, for sure, but I'm a long way from rockist. Rather than tagging any accepted rap aesthetic as inauthentic, I find that watching from a position of such ignorance + cultural disconnection renders *me* inauthentic. I watch this stuff, + I feel like I'm pretending to be black, which is somewhat disconcerting, being a "woman of colour" + all. But Kanye just makes me laugh. He dances like my dad.
