zZz - Grip (Dir: Roel Wouters a.k.a. Xelor)
Grip is a video clip for the band zZz. Grip is a one take, top shot videoclip with professional trampoline gymnasts simulating typical video effects. The video has been recorded live as part of the opening 'Nederclips' at the Stedelijk museum 'S-Hertogenbosch SM'S (Curated by Bart Rutten).
Really cool.
how mixing three separate, potentially interesting ideas (and setting them to a track that fits none of them) makes for a pretty poor music video.
No, I didn't really get it
Why is antville full of so many music video snobs?
Holy crap. Don't listen to them, that was really good / great. Great ending even. It skirted the line of boredom, though, which is why I think some won't get it.
you want to address the issues?
-
video as computer app interface: an ok idea, done before, but still holds plenty potential. (not sure whether choosing obscure video effects functions will really speak to the wider audience you presumably want to reach, but, so be it.)
-
top shot potentialities: an ok idea, done before, but you've got some nice moments in there playing with the depth. however these come rather late in the video, so they appear incidental, and underdeveloped, rather than a main concept.
-
trampoline+gymnasts: an ok idea, but letting them flip/twist/whirl freely like that is not only pointless, it actually completely defeats any good tie-in they could have had (at least with idea 2).
as regards the music, please point to anything about it that you see as fitting into the video.
"been done before" really? this and which other thousands of music videos. It's all done before. I liked it. It could've worked better in some parts, sure, but still.
I found it quite funny. But I must admit that I have a Mac and an iPod, so I got most of the references. I'm not quite sure most people will get what that multi-color umbrella was doing in the video, for example.
Anyway, I found the music and the pace of the video to match perfectly, and I loved the two guys playing on the sides.
I like it :)
I love the design!
prog: 3. You don't like sports, do you? They had some really good acrobatics in there.
I saw it as a rather neat fitness-enabled science experiment that just barely saved itself from being really dull. I'd say compare it to Rewind or Elektrobank (for sports reasons, not for irony).
Also: The bassline is very bouncy, no?
sports can be fascinating and fun. only: it, per se, had no place here.
nah. it's great.
i liked it too.and "done before" is quite a lame comment and actually heard very, very often before.
i for one think this is excellent. If this isn't an original idea then what the fuck is?
dir. Michael Gracey (ProdCo: Partizan, Agency: Krow)
just another example of an ad agency shamelessly ripping off a music video?
actually, they apparently licensed the idea from Mr Wouters..
