Music Video Mix Tape / Theme: Feature Directors Part2
Hi Gang. Happy New Year. A few weeks back I posted the first installment of a music video play-list that is dedicated to videos created by filmmakers primarily known for their work in cinema.
I've finally had time to post the second installment. One more to come. Enjoy.
Note: If you have better links to videos, I can certainly try to update links if time allows. Cheers.
cool post- i thought of one that you can add to the list... William Friedkan, who did The Exorcist, directed a really bizarro video for Laura Branigan's 1984 single, "Self Control"... it feels like a really expensive student film...
nice idea - hope you'll do more/others of those. (you have antonioni & co., i trust?)
oh, and: p.t.anderson deserves a more notable mention on your list. (also: can hardly believe that van sant is responsible for this... perhaps this one he did for them recently is a better litmus test.)
fincher lynch
I tried to not include filmmakers who have had very successful music video careers before transitioning into features. Though there may be an exception or two to the rule, this is why Fincher's videos were not part of the list. With regards to David Lynch, I'll be including a piece by him in the final edition, though it is more of a promo than a music video. I've also tried to abstain from using videos that were made in cooperation with a feature and use the film as B -roll.
you're right.
however, when i said lynch i didn't mean what he did for rammstein or michael j but his video with the couple for some japanese singer, yoshiki
Hey Keef, how bout a little Russell Mulcahy on the list?
Hi Alan. Thanks for the suggestion and interest. I absolutely had to consider Russell because the Hungry Like the Wolf video was in rotation like every three minutes on MTV when I was younger. Though his feature career took off shortly after his video career, the fact that he has had such a huge role in videos is why I left him off. The idea is more about filmmakers who have dabbled in videos.
