antville Music Video Awards 2008
The Winners (say hi) !On the strength of a mere two videos this year, Romain Gavras earned himself the scepter of Best New Director of 2008. Though usually reticent to comment his own work, he sent the 'ville a brief comuniqué:
Thank you, antville people. I received a lot of hate this year because of the Stress video - I love getting hate, but a little love is good sometimes too, so thank you very much for these awards... I'd like to thank my director of photography André Chemetoff and my producer Mourad Belkeddar, all the brilliant kids acting in the Stress video, and Chris Marker.Of course, that's just him trying to rosy up his public image - when he first heard of his awards (including Best Editing, since he does his own), what he actually said to Mourad was: "What? Why not Best Video?!"
Well deserved accolades. Romain Gavras is an interesting director based on those two clips he brought a fresh approach. Let's see what he does next, brilliant editing on stress.
he obviously made two of the best videos of 2008, and made 'A Cross The Universe'... and thus had a great year- but to be called best new director in 2008 must seem pretty funny to him. These are great too:
March 2007 www.dailymotion.com
May 2007 www.dailymotion.com
and here are some early ones that don't compare to his later output but are interesting none the less: one from 2003: uk.youtube.com
and one from 2002: uk.youtube.com
After seeing his Signatune spot, I'm convinced he should direct the next Fast/Furious movie, ha.
r-g's first feature (with vincent cassel in the lead) is in preprod.
"I received a lot of hate this year because of the Stress video - I love getting hate..."
dude...get over yourself a bit. I know he did get a lot of shit about the Stress video, but it's so dorky to say that you love getting hate regarding your work. That shit hurts, be a big boy...admit it.
he's had a lotta dick had a lotta dick i've had a lotta time
