Pepe Alva brings a breath of fresh air to a new generation of Latinos. His music takes influences from Argentinian rockers like Charly Garcia & Fito Paez, but also from international stars like Sting & Peter Gabriel. If you listen closely to Pepe's music, you will hear the Peruvian coastal influences of Eva Ayllon or Serrano of Savia Andina. Pepe's music incorporates a solid understanding of his cultural musical heritage expressed by the skilful implementation of the Charango (10 string guitar from the Andes) and the Zampoña (native peruvian flute). Alva says that the combination of radically different instruments interests him and that the fusion of cultures, music, and people is where his music's message comes from.

"Comprometida" se presenta en 1991 como primer sencillo del album debut de Pepe Alva en Warner Music. La cancion representa la fusion entre el rock college y la musica andina que Pepe explora desde su inicios en la escena bohemia de Miami hasta su difusion internacional.

"Matarina" es una cancion tradicional del carnaval de la sierra norte del Peru. Original del autor Cesar Ramiro Bringas e inteenacionalizada por la version de Pepe Alva.

Pepe Alva is the second of three brothers born in Dayton, Ohio on December 23, 1971. At the age of one, his family returned to Trujillo, Peru. While attending school in Peru, Pepe wrote and arranged songs for a local rock & roll band called Straps. At age 17, Pepe and his family returned to Ohio for a year before settling in Miami where the family has been since. In Miami, Pepe continued to develop his musical style and worked with local, as well as national acts. In 1992, he joined the group UREP (Peru spelled backwards) and recorded an independent peruvian album which was distributed by Sony in Peru. Two years later, Pepe decided to pursue a solo career and forms his backup band "Alma Raymi". " I was tired of fighting for my individuality and wanted to find a sound that would identify me and my music," says Pepe regarding his new sound that incorporates alternative rock with his peruvian folkloric heritage which effectively comes together to become the sound the world has come to know as Pepe Alva's.
