"Highway Rhymes" was created in tandem with Natas Pictures in an abandoned warehouse outside of New York City.

In Eric's words: “Highway Rhymes is a conversation that started between me and my guitar. It’s about puzzles, riddles, projection and growing pains. Life can be complex and confusing, especially when you’re young and facing the unknown. I wrote the song as a way of dealing with the anxieties and questions that come along with the irony of feeling alone in a city as big as Manhattan. Most of all, Highway Rhymes reflects lessons I’ve learned about taking the time to listen to and understand myself and others along the way.”

Jax Jones explained the creative process and the sample he used in an interview with The Line Of Best Fit:

This track is so simple. It’s just one of those that works better for not throwing the kitchen sink at it. At the end of the first day of writing with RAYE (a genius), Jin Jin (the other co-writer and another genius) and I (occasionally been called a genius – usually by my mum) just had a bassline and the song mapped out. The vocal was inspired by a lot of bashment and general bravado as we were having a lot of fun and feeling good that day in the studio. I spent the next day writing and experimenting with different basslines, which were good but not quite doing it. I’ve always been obsessed with the Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y. “Body Language” track – it’s been a staple in my DJ sets – so I tried it and it was lit. Fitted perfectly.

Jonas Blue: I wrote “By Your Side” in London, and I had this out-of-body experience while DJing at one of my festival gigs. I had this idea of being in the crowd, like with me still DJing but me also in the crowd sharing a magical moment with someone I was passionate about. I wanted to create a song about having that moment. Then it evolved into having this person in your life next to you helping you through things. It’s very different for a dance song because you don’t hear dance songs with this deep lyrical content. My songs are very songwriter-based and it comes from the classic pop background of being inspired by Max Martin and Calvin Harris.
