I Draw Slow 'Valentine' Directed by Hugh O'Conor
A girl, a boy, and a love story gone wrong...
After previously shooting a 'live', one-take video for 'Swans', a song on Dublin folk/Americana band I Draw Slow's second album 'Redhills' the band ask me back to direct the first single on the their new album, 'White Wave Chapel', which is out March 1st on Pinecastle in the US and worldwide.
We shot in a small, hidden gem of a bar in Dublin's inner city, the Hacienda, which you really have to buzz to get into, and on the surrounding streets. Our DP Cathal Watters used superspeed Zeiss lenses from Panavision on the RED Epic. I asked Aidan Gillen ('Game of Thrones', 'The Wire') if he'd play the male lead, never thinking he'd actually say yes, but he liked the band and it all came together really fast...

Artist Statement:
I wanted to create a video that reflected the lyrics, but also brought something fresh to this track. The science fiction nature of the lyrics lent itself to a myriad of artistic possibilities. I wanted to inject a mystical flavor into this video by combining video magic with music magic. Natural Dissolve allows me to be creative both musically and visually. Visuals really add another dimension to music and create a much different experience. The electronic/sci fi nature of the track mixes with the human nature of the video, vocals and lyrical content. The direction is about combining different sources of artistic magic to create a solid art philosophy. The magical art direction weaves itself throughout this piece and tells a story of magic, creation, technology, dreams and love. I hope you enjoy this piece as I wanted to bring this track to life. I wanted to send you into a different world for the short time that I have your attention.
