Lady Sovereign "Random" Dir. Chris Cairns
Nothing mindblowing, but maybe the best UK grime song I've heard in a while she just signed a record deal with Jay-Z.
Chris Cairns is possibly best known for his LCD Soundsytem video "Daft Punk is Playing at My House" - I guess he's still really into those audio light displays.
Wow. That was irritating in so many ways.
familiar, wow, I have read your blog and concluded you are gay in so many ways. But remember there is nothing wrong in being gay. But you are. I liked this song.
Oh boo-hoo. Grime - as championed by the prissy Lady Sov. - is generally crap. And hey, homo-fucking-sexual or not I'll happily kick your teeth in. And if you're a girl, I'll happily have one of my girl friends kick your teeth in on my behalf. Welcome to the interweb; keepin' it real in '06.
lady sov rocked the knitting factory in nyc twice in '05. seriously, she had all the hard brooklyn cats nodding. neither of her videos have communicated her live energy at all, and the recordings don't do it justice either.
she's restricted by the fanciness and high concept of this video. she needs to be presented dirty, grainy, immediate. hopefully jigga will oversee the next record and give it a little reasonable doubt treatment.
You just wait til she straps on a backpack and goes all conscious on your asses and we'll see who's dirty.
consider your prediction noted. i like to think Jay will set her straight.
(some so-designated "conscious" rappers still rock it. it's the asshole who invented that term needs smacking)
Hehe... I'm just kidding. The last thing I expect is for her to go backpack -- certainly not with her big pro-hoodie campaign. No, I was just being a bit of a dick. The video simply doesn't work for her.
and on that we can agree, sir.
She looks like the little sister from Mel C.
(What an important comment!)
worth noting that this video was made quite a while back: late 2004. before lcd and before all the sov hype/jay-z signing etc.
'reasonable doubt' treatment, dickensian hero? she'd be lucky. sov really really lacks a killer tune. the trendy new york scene can't get enough of uk grime, but they love the STYLE of it... really, have sov, kano et al. got the tunes and beats to live up to the hype?... i say NO.
wow she sucks
i agree, this video just doesnt fit with SOV at all. I think the video kind of slows down and takes some energy away from the song. Also, the little "comedy" bits [J.Lo, etc] are entirely unnecessary.
