Videoville
An obligatory reminder and update on videoville.
For those who weren't here or don't remember, it was started as an extension to videos.antville.org.
If you haven't lately, visit these pages: hot mv Links - Antvilleans - Antville history + press - Directors A-Z - Treatments - Popular Pages - W.I.Z. - Genres - Video albums
videoville & antville were recently studied by a group of college kids in Australia. They blogged their research and came up with the fascinating idea of combining Wikis with a MySpace-type format to foster communities. Their final research is in here.
Btw, that Links page needs to have a section that focuses on shorts+ads-focused sites (Motionographer, No fat clips, Stash, Shortsville..).
(heehee, a wikiwiki.) nice thought, downunders. "After analysing the design features and faults of the VideoVille Wiki and Antsville site, we realised that both projects were lacking significantly. They were lacking order, structure, and an inviting arena for users to discuss/critique and engage with music videos, directors and artists. Video Ville Wiki appears to have been set up in reaction to the overwhelming response that the AntsVille site has achieved. However, this project has not been updated since 2003, and has since been left as an empty wiki."
not sure you want to hear a critique of your critique... (i wonder what their teacher sean healy had to say.)
more to the point:
- main obstacle to videoville participation seems return on investment. input's too tricky, and what do you get back for your effort? there's only so many archivists out there... and wikis are fundamentally archives.
- w&p's suggestion of an antville craigslist thang sounds like something that might gather more momentum. question is: what platform to piggyback that idea of functionality on?
