may the best vid win...
vid 1: 40mb mov.
vid 2: myspace.
The one and then the other. Music video then commercial. Looks like this track has it all sewn up.
I want to vomit in my mouth a little. And I mean that in a good way.
Wow, thanks for comparing..! I will add that my viacom spot was initially made for an industry conference to show how people consume music nowadays so it has loads of cringeworthy shots of phones and people at their computer etc...
This version feels like it goes on for an eternity. I now find it very boring. However... I've just cut it down to 1 minute for it to go out as an image spot on MTV for the next couple of months and the new shortened cut moves at a much, much better pace. I'll post a link when I've managed to upload it. d
Actually the Viacom spot is quite good, I like it better than the real video.
I was a bit suprised at the direction they took Video #1. The lyrics have such strong material in them that practically scream music video treatment:
- Falling in and out of daydreams
- Lupe riding around in a gigantic transformer robot
- A parody of rap video posturing
Video #1 seems like a fairly safe boring choice, it's mostly performance based. No messing around with goofy concepts that might not endear Lupe to a rap audience, veers away from any of the industry criticism that the song contains. Instead it mainly just tries to advertise Lupe's geek chic lifestyle (ooh look at all the skateboards). Not bad but it feels like a missed opportunity.

Again, made for a conference. This time, this one will not be going to air. d
Dan Sully, is "This Is How We View It." from this year or last year? What kind of conference?
The green screen one is from this year. Made in Jan. It was played at a conference called the Oxford Media Convention I think. Somwhere bigwigs go to stroke their chins about 'the future of creative content' (!)
the commercial is way better.
lupe is the rap antithesis, i think this video caters well to a less mainstream crowd. that said, i think the commercial is definitely hot.
Here is a link to the 1 min version.
I've taken down the 3 minute version. d
