harsh grade specially the blacks doesnt make to most of 7d (or whatever it was shot on)
@ Gwizzard. Are you a colorist or something? Whatever or whoever you are, I’m sure you could do better, yeah?? Yes- of course you could. I mean is slagging the grade all you have to say about this? Why exactly do u say the grade is 'harsh'?? What does that even mean?
This is a really, really good little video. There’s loads of great stuff to say about it so why be negative?? It's so fucking predictable of the people who post on here. It really gets on my big fat titties.
My opinion on the grade is considerably different from yours- I think it compliments the story, atmosphere era and imagery perfectly, the colour palette is sexy and it matches the vibe of the music & band to a tee. Plus -the edit is exceptionally good, the story is unexpected & super stylish and the band look great.
The director has done a really great job on what was probably a very limited budget.
It annoys me so much when people are always so fucking negative on this forum. Most people just seem fucking bitter. Why not try and be positive about something occasionally...
ASBO, I agree with you, but there's no need to get so upset about it. Most of the posters here are just kids who like to talk about videos- their opinions are hardly definitive and a lot of times they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Best to not lose sleep over this.
stop being so stupid, budget. nobody was saying that particular video was shot with either 5d or 7d. we were just talking about the wonders of digital filmmaking and the end of celluloid, as we know it.
I'd be far more worried about the editing and content than the color grade. Color grade is perfectly fine for what it is.
I'd also go so far as to say that this is also the opinion of kid who has absolutely no idea what they are talking about:
'Plus -the edit is exceptionally good, the story is unexpected & super stylish and the band look great.'
Hows that for negative and bitter?
@ASBO
I'm not a colourist but certainly ain't no kid. Antville is all about opinions valid or not.
In my opinion it'd have been a sweeter lookin clip if they hadn't crushed the blacks so much and would've been more in keeping with the psychedelic vibe of the thing.
And chill out about this all it isn't worth it.
Well as someone who loves color correction, I agree.. the blacks on this video were crushed, and in so missed the mark on the vibe the video was trying to portray. This is perfectly fine criticism... Had the image been softer, grainier and less contrasty, the video would have worked better.
I disagree, I think the grade worked; they're trying to make the 7D or whatever look like they shot on film, so for that it worked.
As for the video, it was ok, didn't hold my attention completely, i did like the manic editing and the photography (although it did lapse into the classic, 'so little DOF that everything's soft' that you see so much on the HDSLR's). But yeah, superficially I guess i liked it.
Just cause there are film burns doesn't make it look like film. From the first second to the last it looks like dslr. There is a way to make the footage from those cameras look more organic, they didn't succeed tho...
Pancho, I never said "it looks like film', obviously they were "trying to", hence the grade that they did, whether they succeeded or not I guess is up to the viewer.
Yep, the excessive knob-twiddling in the grade has lost a lot of what looks like underneath a good looking video... Like the sharp edit.
All good. Now that this fantastic piece of work has had some more comments, thus views & plus generated an intelligent and constructive discussion about the craft of making videos, I'm really happy. This is what AV should be more about.. Sorry if I offended anyone, I just think this vid is worth a proper look and deserves comment. When a bunch of really talented people have worked so hard on something for fuck all money then it is incredibly disparaging and bitter-making to have the fruits of their collective labor blanked or worse slated when it gets posted here. There's a bitchy culture on AV that just isn't productive for anyone. If you want to inanely slag videos off and vent your general frustration (and gwizzard, I don't mean you) then save it for fucking Youtube. I'm off to bed to listen to PHB- top album btw u should buy it x
