Kate Nash 'Do Wah Do' Dir.Daniel Brereton
Dir: Badly by Daniel Brereton
she looks very much like a cocker spaniel with that hat on.
brereton? this is 100% burza.
100% burza
more like 100% embarrasing more like 100% waste of electricity more like 100% offensive
that ain't burza. it's brereton.
the song, setup and 60s airline style had so much potential. wish they would've capitalized on the narrative more, as of now it's very muddled.
video is held back by sloppy and bad photography. But who knows, My guess was a one day shoot with lots of set ups. Nasty shadows flying everywhere. Also not sure who thought cutting between static wides and shaky long lens handheld would work.
I like the idea. But Mrs. paltrow did it better.
what video shoot isn't one day with lots of set ups?
y'all are a bunch of bitches. i think its a fun video and kate looks super cute in it. kate nash's best vid since "foundations" (which is by far kinga's best in my opinion)
I like the video. It matches the song well, it's playful, fun, and the story moves nicely from start to finish.
I also like that the loose narrative ties into the lyrics but, on top of that, we're given a fairly inventive world in which the story can take place. The casting in the video is also spot on and helps to draw me in.
On the other hand, I don't really understand the critique on the lighting. I think the lighting is quite appropriate, it evokes nostalgia, it's attractive, clean, and yet still manages to be interpretively-realistic.
What's more, the artist looks good in the video and she comes off like that sweet girl-next-door that most guys seem to be so into.
This is a solid and entertaining pop promo that lives up to its record and doesn't wear out its welcome with repeated viewings. Seems like a job quite well done to me.
p.s. - i do take small issue with the lighting unit being in shot (0:11-0:25 top left corner) but hey that's just life in music videos i guess. ;)
Is kalstark brereton's mum?
Dad actually.
This site is becoming so lame.
If you go into any detail about your dislike for a video then you are instantly branded a "hater" or someone who "should go make something"
On the other hand if you give reasons why you like something then you are a dickrider or the director's mom
I thought the whole point of this place was for people to comment on videos.
Mac, don't forget about the 3rd category: Commenters who complain about how lame the site is getting.
Or the 4th: People with nothing useful to add such as yourself
Honestly I was just coming to kalstark's defense because he is one of the few people who regularly posts insightful commentary(although sometimes long-winded) and I would hate to see him stop.
Or the 5th: people who come to this site for insightful commentary.
The comments here will always be ridiculous. It's a bunch of people throwing around opinions based on assumptions, hunches, and sophomoric philosophies about what music videos should or shouldn't be.
The next time you find yourself worrying too much about antville comments, remember this classic post. It's just fun and people talking bs, and maybe that's all it really should be.
Budget I bet a lot of people visit antville because they have not found another site with the same level of discourse about music videos.
Sure not everyone here is going to be Michel Gondry, but I can take what I want from the comments I think have validity and dismiss the ones I think are BS. Or sometimes get a good laugh. This is why I don't need to "see some of your work" to judge the merits of what you say. It's just some random person's opinion.
If you feel no one ever has anything insightful to say here then why not watch the videos on Youtube or something? Why do you even post and read the comments?
If people become more reluctant to comment out of fear of being personally attacked then to me that weakens the beauty of antville.
(Arguing on the internet isn't my thing so this is my last post on it.)
(Also that Broken Bells post is a format debate not video commentary)
Discourse? I wouldn't look for it here, you'll only end up frustrated.
Anonymity + axes to grind + drive-by knee jerk reactions to pop videos = Don't take anything on this website too seriously.
That's what makes this place fun- it's a crapshoot. Are there times where you can actually learn something from the comments? Rarely. The Broken Bells post is a good example- it's some serious blind-leading-the-blind going on. Realize that every post is like that, people of various intentions making assumptions, dubious proclamations about art/culture, and wild guesses. The comments here are fun, but taking them seriously is pointless.
the song is waaay - waaay retro 60's romantic comedy movie musical- not sure if I dig it but it certainly would cheer me up on a rainy day. The video is ok, could of used more violence in it- ha
Does anyone know where to get this in higher resolution? I was just looking around and it seems as though every site is using the same low res version. I would certainly be willing to pay for a Kate Nash videos DVD, but it doesn't seem to exist.
It's true, Kate Nash is gorgeous! But this video's far too camp for my tastes, there's something kind of cringeworthy about how it's played. I prefer Kinga's low-key videos.
