The Rapture "Sail Away" - Dir: Kris Moyes
how sad is that
fairly
Hey what happened? it looks like a roughcut.
This moyes guy usually delivers, things look rushed here no color pass.
I can't think of any other director with a wider quality spread that K-Moyes. He's literally made like 10 amazing videos and 10 terrible videos.
disappointing
you guys are being too critical, its a creative video, well executed. not as riveting as some of his previous work but Kris Moyes always does his own thing, never imitates. I respect that.
@shut up there are lots of 'creative videos' but creative does not mean that they are good. I'd also have to laugh at the idea of this being well executed. I'll say it's a good idea but it feels like amateur hour in terms of direction. There is one poor wide shot of him sailing on the 'hovering' chip packet and the rest of the time he is quite obviously standing on a moving vehicle of some sort which is simply framed out of shot. The shots, cinematography and structure just seems loose and uninspired. I'd also beg to differ on the fact of K.Moyes imitating. He may never imitate other music video directors but he almost always seems to be imitating some artist, style, film effect or youtube trend, you're just not educated enough to pick the references. It's what he does, the post modern chameleon.
I'm agreeing with @palamo. This would have gotten canned not every videos has to be spectacular but the execution has to be professional.
I didn't mind visuals just the editing.
00:43-00:45 there are obviously some problems with this flying bag (yeah, i know its a magic bag, ok?) at 1st its small, it gets bigger, and when he jumps onto it its so big u couldnt mistake it for the same bag even if you tried some problems with the 'sailing' seq too: the bag seems to be floating, but once the guy has hopped on it it seems to be driving at full speed as if it suddenly had a lot more oomph and no longer was it a magic bag but a car with some tinfoil glued to the rooftop. which it was.
other than this, i enjoyed the wind blowing away the leaves, the guys blowing their conch shells, the shadow the bag casts over his face and the story overall, but not the execution, indeed ps any news on how deep is your love? has the video been released yet?
Some people over think this shit to hard... This video is so fun... It's not perfect, it's fucking rough around the edges but who cares, it adds to the charm
Wow, this guy is almost gayer than Mika. The most ridiculous part is of course when the aspect ratio keeps switching all of a sudden. Reminded me of this timeless classic: youtu.be (keep an eye on the aspect ratio).
this is just sloppy... sorry. if it was a no name first time director it would have some charm, not in this case tho. this is like a rough cut of a poorly executed bad idea. ouch. stepping off the soap box now.
Other than the strange switches to 2:35, how was this sloppy?
It's so dreamlike and fun. Feels like Flight of the Navigator meets Tom Baker meets Capri Sun. The idea is so singular and strange, it's wonderful. The fact that someone was able to pitch this idea and get it made is a miracle. 10 thumbs up!
Extended version. Shout out to Adam Newport Berra.
Why does everything have to be graded on a binary scale of genius or shit? It's mid-level Moyes for sure but not without merit. It's more watchable than most videos released this month to be honest.
It's kind of shit when you realise Moyes has been directing professionally for 7 years, that this took 5 and a half months to make (according to videostatic) and presumably had a budget between 30 and 50k. The question is how would this be critiqued if it was an unknown director, just starting out?
didn't watch it in its ent- oh, never mind.
new category for the 'ville awards: Best Not Watched In It's Entirety Video
pi$$ off
actually, it's [sic] seems entirely appropriate in cases like these.
