Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Gold Lion" - dir. Patrick Daughters
great cinematograpy.... good song.... good performances.... i'd say great cleavage too but I think that was just a flesh colored shirt.
still - the lack of concept reminds me how awesome "Y Control" was.... hopefully another Jonze/YYYs video for this album....
Very disappointing for such an incredible track.
When I see " buffering", buffering" ... I lose interest...boring. Post in QT.
yeah i really wanna see this but the link ain't workin for me, had a search and couldn't find another source? anyone?
great video. is this the same dude that did the maps video? The mood and feel of this video is damn near perfect. Videos dont always need to have concepts. alot of videos today get bogged down by trying to be to concept heavy and clever. Awesome vid.
try this kids
thanx pops! the video is ok, maps is far better. If you like the track and electro listen to this diplo remix www.nialler9.com it rules
Oh theres the fire i was looking for....
YYY`s have changed there tune quite a bit.
Kinda disapointed, i mean it looked great, just expected more for some reason.
Hey Aaron! U havnt seen Y Control? Are you crazy house?!!! Thats my favorite video! Maybe, at least top of list. I need more ROMS!
boring song, boring video.
karen o is looking more and more like michelle shocked everyday.....yuck.
jeezus. this guy has really fallen off.
the video is reminiscent of some kind of mid eighties christian metal band... but even those videos were tongue in cheek. I'm afraid these guys are sincere!
the dusty shit made Nick look like a Japanese cartoon character.
god. let's hope Spike can come ressurect this band from the utterly humourless fame struck video stars they seem to be becoming.
Damn, you guys a fucking ridiculous. This is really a great performance video. Such hatred for it seems forced.
The thing about this Antville is it is populated by a bunch of geeks, myself included. And a truckload of those geeks are wanna be directors. I have first hand knowledge of dudes trashing the videos they personally lost out on. Worst yet is dudes trashing other dudes they write against all the time, which I know about too.
And don't think these directors you are trashing aren't reading the shit and being crushed by it (yes directors have feelings). This is the only viable outlet for new videos on the web, trust me, they all read it (even Gondry).
So don't sweat it Patrick. Vidophobe is The Malloys and everybody knows it. And to everyone else, keep on hating on, or maybe one day, go make your own BETTER video. That will really show them. Oh wait, your treatments suck. Ok, just keep hating then. Peace.
really, gondry reads this site? what do you think he thought of my poll? How's my hair look?
what's with all the outing lately?
fell: patrick's done stronger videos than this, just like the malloys have done stronger videos than that. do you have a specific bone to pick?
otaku-house, you just blew my mind twice tonite. the first time being when you said "you have to take it to the next level, you have to beat the audience to the next punch, otherwise they get bored." either i'm really high and feeling the love, which i am, or your my new hero.
prog: the Malloy's part was a joke.
Spinning off of fell's comments:
I feel Antville is a lot better than it used to be in terms of respecting directors' work and relating constructive comments. At the same time, this place is well worth visiting even without the commentary.
I don't need to say this, really, but ultimately it's up to each individual director not to peek inside the comments on their story if they don't want some harsh, constructive criticism and inevitable shit talk about their vids.
Have we ever unanimously spit our milk out in joy and proclaimed a vid 'great'? That's not what the comments are about. If anything I've learned how disparate our tastes are. Some people whom I really respect like vids I don't. I love that dynamic.
Don't fall for the newbie curse though. Lotsa random people unwittingly make dumb comments here. (see samsquatch in your blue orchid post)
I'm curious to see what director-file.com or videoville.org would garner if they were posted on a website-rating site, or here. It's healthy to get a taste of your own medicine once in a while..
Hehe might I add: If you love a director, come fill out his/her Director page at Videoville! I already started Patrick's.
Finally (sorry to take space here), what was Patrick trying to get across in this vid? (n.b. I havent seen it yet) That's one thing I'm dying to do with Videoville is research what went into any particular video and post it on the site. Ace's Crooked Teeth was easy, but lesser-covered vids are impossible! I can't find much about Gold Lion anywhere. Argh! Patrick, e-mail me, or post a comment!
I think you have to take it with a grain of salt.
Salty Gold Lions
And its grown a bit on me
The video functioned well. Continuity was a bit of an issue at points, and the set-up was unnecessary (just get to the song), but it was beautifully shot.
As for "outing," I think it's very easy for people on here to hide behind screen names and offer up emotionally charged comments (positive and negative) without reasonably backing up their words. It's annoying (and one of the reasons why any true gauge of a video's impact, or any "vote" system on here is inherently flawed).
Sorry Aaron! As u can tell I hate typing. I would love to meet up and have in depth conversations about video games anyday. Seriously thanks for the Roms they mean a lot from a guy with a psp. oh by the way. Im going to NY next wed-sat to shoot. Hit me up and we can hang? you live in NY right?
This video is rad. I love the wheel of fire.
they clearly cast some terrible spell, no doubt awakening some manner of fire demon from his ancient slumber.
here is a quicktime.
