Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat "Lucky" dir. Darren Doane
Wow, a song that actually manages to out-sap James Blunt. Kill me now. Must of had to film pretty damn early in Old Town Square to not get any crowds.
I liked it. It held my interest the entire time and the Mraz sections are particularly nice. This looks like a two format shoot... 35mm and HVX??
Overall it's a solid video and the performances are particularly nice. I love the stoic and very composition oriented Mraz vibe that's going on.
I do, however, feel that the filmed sections overshadow the Caillat sections.
K
i wouldnt know about old town square, but some of it has definitely been shot in romania, transylvania to be more exact.
and 35 mm? to me it looks like the whole vid's been shot on a hvx with a mini35 adapter.
Don't know where Colbie's stuff was shot, but everything with Mraz was definitely shot in the most obvious iconic parts of Prague. From what I can tell all of the locations were actually organized fairly well geographically so as to fit into a single day of filming.
They must have started in old town square super early in the morning to avoid the crowds. That statue you see Mraz cavorting around is the statue of Jan Hus, famed czech protestant reformer. The cool gothic look arch that you see him performing under is definitely on the side of the Church of Tyn, only a few paces out of the way. From there they must have hopped into one of the vintage car tours that pick up from old town square and rode along to the major landmarks. That would explain the confusing presence of the romanian flag shot (which is actually a shot of the romanian embassy) because the cameraman must have grabbed it while riding the car up to prague castle, thinking "oh, cool b-roll shot of a czech flag" when in fact he was passing the probably the only place in Prague with a Romanian flag.
And yeah this all looks digital to me. Actually aside from travel costs this must of been an insanely cheap video to make. Shooting on a beach is pretty much free and the only thing that they would of had to pay money to do in Prague was a 30 euro car tour. Probably the biggest expense was renting a set of shift/tilt lenses, money well spent imo.
prague then looks like some cities in transylvania, and they all look like wien
The first 20-30 seconds of the video (jason's part) looks very much like my home town of Sibiu, Romania (which is located in Transylvania). However, as convinced as I was that the very beginning of it was filmed in Romania, now I am not convinced at all. I asked my entire family to watch the video, many of whom grew up in Sibiu, and most believe that the shot of the Romanian flag happened to be in Prague at the Romanian consulate. I guess I just really miss my home town and wanted desperately to see it in Jason's video :( Still, this merits a trip to Prague :-)
