Phelps & Munro: Preamble, directed by controlspace
Preamble 8.1 Mb quicktime
this is definitely one of the best videos i've seen in a very long time.
no words!
Very very admirable, though, I don't know. I wanted to like it. Kind of reminded me of Chris Cunningham.
conceptual funkiness! i guess the only thing you could have added was him sitting down at the beginning - but this was excellent. nz's a hotbed of creativity, it seems...
(love your 'file under', too. is this a first for you? other stuff?)
i made a videotest with some layers that use the same "effekt". Quicktime, 1 MB:
This Video looks like a photo to me. It´s very easy to create such a video in 3 or 4 hours. It´s okay to create Videos in 4 ours, but it´s only a nice effekt. "Monkey Drummer" uses this effekt but only to create something that is unique. Cunningham brings his own ideas into it. That is good. But this video is a bit boring. Or? On MTV they show the same effect at "MTV/Load". Just with a face. It´s easy to match fingers, arms, face with this effect and make a video.
sometimes a simple, sort-of-been-done, possibly boring concept like this will make me hate the video. but sometimes i just like it. i think the difference comes from some sort of sixth sense of whether the guy who made it was a stuck-up asshole or not. i liked this one.
nice test, stefan.
you see, there's something to controlspace's video that's subtly funny. sure, it's a one-trick job, but sometimes just how you set and time that one trick can make or break it. as salad says: it's not got that asshole air to it. plus: it's not just the idea that's the achievement, it's actually putting it to a track, and convincing somebody to bank on it for their video.
cool and simple, did not find boring at all, but it is not the first clip to use this technique though.
jorn barger sez "stunning animatronic midi-display-interface video".
