just thought i'd share this really rather rare solution that lets us mac folks save video streams to the harddisk (pc users have streamdown and others, i'm told).

works for rtsp://foo.ram, rtsp://bar.rm (edit pnm: links to rtsp: and they work too) and mms://foobar.wmv streams (no solution for rtsp://barfoo.mov streams yet...)

1. get CocoaJT (it's free! consider a donation...)
2. launch and go to Magnéto>Enregistrer un flux
3. specify the url, set format, choose filename and folder
4. press Enregistrer
5. erm... that's it!

(i'm presuming you have the free RealOne player for the resulting .rm files, and either windows media player or the alternatives [mplayer or vlc] for the .wmv files)

ps: i did once get the advanced output option in vlc to record an rtsp://barfoo.mov stream, by following instructions found here and here, but after that once it's never worked again for me...
