2002: A New JY Movie Video
I'm a NYC-based video editor and I've found that, unlike writers and artists who can create their art from scratch, an editor has to edit "something." So, as a lover of movies and music, I used that as my jumping-off point-- cutting movies to songs that are either about the movie or can inform them.
Anyway, I've cut Misery to the Green Day song "Pulling Teeth" and Citizen Kane to the White Stripes' "Union Forever," a song whose every lyric is a line of dialogue from the film. My latest one is called 2002. It's Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey to Mellow's "Fantastic."
Check out 2002 at:

Enjoy!

good job, i liked the white stripes video.
Great stuff. I've been meaning to do something with the visuals from 2001 for ages myself.
Liked the White Stripes one a lot too.
re. the white stripes/citizen kane effort: a cut every measure might fit the track, but it's quite an injustice to the visual material you were working with...
i agree with progosk on the white stripes/citizen kane vid. you're forcing the visuals to cut to the beat... drawing emphasis to the editing/cutting more than anything else.
I'm afraid I have to agree with the above. I found the Kane one the weakest.
On a positive note though, I loved 2002. It was by far the richest and textured edit. Thouroughly enjoyed it and have passed the link on.
yeah, agreed on 2002 - though there were a few too many straight on-beat edits here too, on the whole much better/more interesting.
i LOVE the 2001 edit. i think the problem with the white stripes one, is after that first sequence ending with the snowglobe breaking, you sort of lose the theme of "heartbreak, no love, etc". i'm not sure what that sequence is supposed to communicate.
but the part where they are sitting at the breakfast table is AWESOME. and i love the ending too.
what's up with this "injustice to the visual material" bullshit? yeah parts of this one aren't that hot, but is citizen kane a holy relic? nope.
and big points for using kane with this song. i only wish you had taken that part where they quote him and had HIM sing it (with time remapping or something). "what would i like to have been? everything you hate!"
