The Walkmen "Little House of Savages"
directed by Brett Simon
quicktime here
nice photography, song, band performance.
concept is one-note and tedious. Seriously - with a Lord of the Flies/Peter Pan theme; there's a MILLION things to do. The least they could have done is shown a boar's head on a spear.
Do directors just get lazy or does the band forbid any expansion of a single idea?
i thought it was more about capturing their live presence on video. love that drummer.
i blame the labels for the safe boring stuff. but i actually really like this video!
v tight editing. nice cinematography.
funny: the songs seems a boy-band version of "maps".
i watched 10 seconds of this video and it made me think that i never want to watch another music video again.
seems like there was more of a story with the little indian kids that got cut due to a contractual obligation to devote "at minimum 25 % of screen time to generic handheld shots of the frontman emoting while backlit and occasionally (but not too much) out of focus."
I FREAKING LOVE THE VIDEO FOR "the rat".. someone repost it!
agreed ekc, 'the rat' is one of the more compelling straight-up performance videos i've seen.
...wait, that IS the black and white performance one, yes?
yeah, I was gonna include it in the first post. The Rat is an excellent performance video. I don't think it has ever been up on this site.
The Walkmen - The Rat (wmv)
and if anyone is interested, I found the original very low budget Little House of Savages video here
better mov of Simon's vid original "Little House of Savages" directed by Ian Svenonius "The Rat" directed by Eva Aridjis
If I am honest, I don't think that 'the rat' is a very good video. It's just one of the best songs from the past 5 years. You could have held the static wide shot for the whole song and it still would have seemed good. In fact, it might have been better.
'Little House of Savages' is beautifully photographed.
pretty sure max goldman was the dp on this vid.
yep
