Dealership - Forest
This is a music video I made for the band Dealership (dealerkids.com) inspired by cinema scenes from old NES games like Ninja Gaiden and Blaster Master. All visuals were made with the NES color pallet and the animation mostly sticks to the rules of what an NES is capable of in terms of sprite scaling, resolution, etc. Check it out!

this is so beautiful. i never had an NES so for me it reminds me of old amiga games. i had the idea to recreate the old amiga games style in a video for quite some time now, but it seems you beat me to it with the realization. sooo... how'd you do it? :)
Very cool references. Expecially liked how the Ninja Gaiden leaping attack had an unexpected twist. The oval clouds in the bkgrd when the monster falls remind me of when your character falls in the beginning of Super Mario 2. Fits the music well, too. Nice!
I like it a lot.Hey, thanks for not letting the little guy die,if he had died after saving her I would've cried,it would have been sweet for him to sacrifice his life for hers but that would've been way to serious for the video.really nicely done.
Thanks for the comments....
The clouds are actually from mario 3 after you defeat an airship...but originally i was thinking of the SMB2 intro too...
As for Shynola....I wanted to do this video for a long time, i even had an earlier, non-music video, version that was more direct sprite rips from games. After seeing the junior senior video i immediately was pissed that i hadn't made my nes idea sooner but really i decided to go ahead anyway since their stuff was more pixely just for the sake of being pixely while i wanted to directly reference specifics in NES games. (Ironically right now theres a Super Furry Animals music video that does something similar for Neo Geo games).
While making this video I bought a vectrex (vector based video game console from the 80's) with the idea of making a video with that.....and wouldn't you know it....freakin shynola made Beck- E-pro...DAMN YOU SHYNOLA FOR STEALING MY THOUGHTS!!!
Heh i'll probably still do something with it though....
Im so down with NES. I just had to play Super Mario again. So I purchased a refurbished NES from that guy off of Ebay. So much more fun that todays games. I think anyone that grew up on NES has 8bit inspriration in their work even if its not literal. Miyamoto is a god.
Nice video. See also Lobo's various videogame-inspired videos.
otaku-house, I just traded my friend my video ipod for his psp. why I don't know, don't ask. But this 400 NES games on my psp sounds amazing! How do i do it? I'm so down!
BTW My Logo is influenced by Arkanoid ;)
haha....I'd be totally down with trying to make a video on the last starfighter hardware....but i bet thats a bitch to use.....old school cg wasn't exactly wsiwyg....
Also someone did do a apple II video for a grandaddy song....pretty nice...
And super furry animals just released a neo geo influenced vid... Oh right and Lobo did the 2600 thing....
Running out of old school games to emulate in videos ;)
And don't forget Paul Robertson (please!)
Pauls animation rules! Its so Metal Slug!
