this look seems to be pretty common these days. anyone know what programs are used to do this? is it after effects?? i personally prefer when it looks a little less produced ala MIA Galang. But this is still cool....

Could be almost anything. Flame, Inferno, Avid DS, Combustion, After Effects.... They'd all be capable. It's probably a combination, using different hardware and software for different parts of the job. Could be some 3D work in there too, although most of it looks planar / trompe l'oeil 3D.

In terms of look, that comes down to a creative decision on the part of the designer rather than the capabilities of the software.

c-dub & benroll: We used After Effects. There were some 3D elements deconstructed and reconstructed as 3D layers, hence the "planar" look. Benroll is right, the software don't matter :)
