The New Pollutants - How Big Birds Got Their Colours. Director Anto Skene
Hypnotic music video of various pills and capsules dissolving in water. Captivating and very beautiful.
You can see more of his work at:
Very, very cool.
Sorta reminds me of the Avalanches.
greenaway does hirst.
interesting, but could've been more than that, no?
What would your suggestions be for improvement?
i concur it was neat but there needs to be some escalation - more pills, faster pills, faster cuts - anything.
I actually waited for the whole thing to load than watched it in fast forward...
erm - ianad.
but: if you mean given this material, all you can really do is re-cut, and something more druggy might be of the order. if you could manipulate the material beyond editing, i'd consolidate either a corporeal/organic approach to the pills dissolving, or else a more strictly laboratorial/robotic one, in terms of visual grammar. though i'm a great believer in the minimal, this is fettered by its "neutrality" (cross-fades...?)
though there are some nice syncs this way...
As a mainstream music video consumer I know I crave a coporeal/organic approach to the visual grammer I view.
Nice video
shoot more angles. low angle macro shots for dramatic scale, like imploding buildings underwater. use some directed current to put particles in motion. rising water and bubbles spoil the scene, rotoscope them out. play with time to match sound and vision.
it may not work, but it's what i'd do.
yeah: if you could shoot more, i'd agree w/ bienvenido. (though personally i like the water & bubbles.)
I dont know does the uniformity add the clinical feel?, I see the idea as look at this really simple thing, its really pretty.. ie the Americn beauty plastic bag. rotoscoping is really beside the point.
Maybe a little fish eye lens, a few dutch angles and a couple of fury animals will do the trick. Me thinks neutrality and simplicity is key to this piece. Nice work.
