Arcade Fire "Afterlife" (dir. Emily Kai Bock)
A little bit too formless for me. I still like Emily though.
I'm tired of this kind of video. They all seem like the same thing over and over.
This is really pretty and moving, great film-making and all. My problem (and what I suspect budget's problem is too) is that it feels like someone chopped up a festival short and put some random song on it. Music videos are meant to complement the song (and make it better if needed) - all this does is take attention away from how good the tune is to show off some film-making skills. Kinda disrespectful to the artists. And also a pity because I'd totally wanna watch a movie like this.
Some of the shots were outstanding. I did feel like it was disconnected at certain points.
I disagree that the song doesn't fit the video, The idea of "afterlife" features heavily in the video, with the family dreaming about the deceased mother/wife, longing to see her again, plus the Catholic / purgatory imagery throughout. Anyway, beautiful video.
Beautiful work in my opinion.
Cool....JP
