This video was an interesting marketing experiment. It was paid for by Nike (notice all the clues) and released as a music video. I'm not sure how much airplay it ever got and if that was because MTV/BET was wise to it.
Product placement happens all the time in music videos to help supplement the production or just make some extra money for the artist. This video is unique though because it is essentially a Nike commercial disguised as a Common video. Is this the future for a struggling mv business? I sincerely doubt it.
Regardless though, Common and the label got a healthy budget to make this video and didn't go out of pocket at all to do so. In actuality they might have never made a video for this song otherwise.
