This is the direction he was heading for that jack white/loretta
posted back in september.
much better link here
fucking great video though - is this Twist's best to date?
It's a tough call between this and his Lacquer vid. I personally prefer that one, although this one is perhaps more innovative.
one of my fav videos of the year, hands down.
this works so much better than the loretta/jack vid because: a) the subjects are doing something; b) they use light affects; c) there's no background to make you nauseous; and d) the band doesn't look like 2 dead people at a sunlit barn.
the lacquer vid works so much better than the loretta/jack vid because its awesome and it concludes with an end sign.
How do we know this was the direction he was heading in? That doesn’t make sense, the Tiga video is shot on film and the Loretta/Jack clip on video, that alone is going to lead to an entirely different look no matter how you grade it. The Tiga video is indoors under studio lighting the L/J video is outside most likely with minimal lighting. Was he even going to erase the rig? I kinda like like the visible rig it gives the clip a sense of physical immediacy that wouldn’t be apparent if they got clever and fudged them out somehow. I think if its going anywhere near his other work its into starguitar territory in terms of using the feel of digital video to strip the glossy layers of production away and give the audience a look they are familiar with through their own experience and thus more intimacy with the artists. Then with with the use of the rig we go to a new level of cinematic space moving away from standard multi take edited boredom.
