Run Wrake : Lots of Music Videos
Am surprised Run Wrake hasn't been mentioned more here. There's a stack of his gorgeous and wildly lateral animated music videos at his homepage - which has a large archive of short film, music video and advertisements. Unfortunately they are only excerpts, but still delicious. More excerpts at bermuda shorts, and his highly recommended Run Wrake DVD compilation from Gasbooks, show his music clips including stacks with Howie B. More recently he's done clips for Future Sound of London, The Charlatans, Stereo MCs, U2 and many more - be cool to see any links to these pop up here.
Highly, highly recommended for fans of relentlessly inventive and eclectic animation styles.
Recent interview with him here.
The Japanese have it all, don't they? 3,990円 is about US$34, before shipping. And they have other good stuff there too: Mike Mills, Hexstatic, Light Surgeons, Tomato, D-Fuse, even Me Company.
In America you can get Run's DVD for $40 here. Sooo tempting....
Hi Kevathens... yeah there's some nice lookings stuff at gasbooks...
The Run Wrake DVD is dense with quality animation - quite an overwhelming body of work to watch it all in one sitting.... but gorgeous.... I was happy to note in the interview at least that the dvd represented about 10 years work... ( so there is still hope for other animators ;- )
run wrake rocks. i met him at the rotterdamn film festival after he won his award for rabbits. nice dude. his film 'jukebox' is one of the reasons i wanted to make animation to music.
There is also an earlier werk called 'What is that?' on the Animation Unlimited book and DVD. Loads of other wonderful pieces and articles on there too - well worth a look.
