Black Eyed Peas "Pump It" Dir: Francis Lawrence
so purdy... so entertaining... so mainstream... I FUCKING LOVE FRANCIS LAWRENCE
sorta reminds me of Ne-o's "The Boxer" video - but I think this was much better. The car stuff at the beginning was just really well done. Only question - what does "2 weeks later" mean? Does that explain anythinG?
Pretty well done, Francis is always very good at what he does, but it's a little too effects-y for me. Apl.de.ap's running across peoples' chests was a little awkward visually (on TV) and I didn't like them getting all up in my face. Normally I like that, but please, kids, calm down.
It's funny how BEP2's songs are so schizophrenic, each one has its own demographic. Personally, I love their more bootylicious, 'female' songs (My Humps, Hey Mama) while other people totally go for the more 'male' songs (this one, Let's Get it Started). This song makes me feel icky inside. [BEP1 is pre-Fergie]
I think it's a tie between this and The Boxer. ne-o rule!
Also, this one reminds me too much of Francis' "Son of a Gun (Remix)" by Janet et al. (parking garage) - still, minor details. Looking forward to his NIN vid.
Totally captures the song...and the song is CRAP. Fluff, karaoke garbage, like most of the BEP stuff. Like a car commercial with a bad soundtrack.
well done job on vfx + cinematography. it works for me.
of all the black eyed peas videos, this is the crappiest.
i have a big place in my heart for francois' 'let's get it started' clip.
Why should i like it? It's just the same old promo stuff made for heavy rotation use on MTV. Up-to-date, well-styled, just without any heart or soul in it.
Pulp Fiction sample + Busta Rhymes flow and meaningless "Urban" lyrics + Fergie + Fight Club = Rubbish
It's almost like the marketing drones at whichever record label happened to puke this out have a big spreadsheet with a selection of mainstream popular culture and they just tick a few boxes and don't give a shit and see what comes out. Francis Lawrence does do a good job of making it all palatable though. "JT - Cry Me a River" and "Ginuine - What's the Difference" are both really good videos.
I liked the song but the video it's kind of desperate, too much effects and too little story. Why divide the piece into two acts, when they're no related at all? Maybe if it had a "to be continued" and a conclusion in other video it'd be cool, but as it stands it's just eye-candy. Well done eye-candy, nonetheless.
They really know how pop works but it seemed that they forgot on their current album. This here is so hysterical, I'm sorry, I also love it.
I have to agree with allot of the above comments. This is nice looking formulaic garbage that does little more than tickle the retinas. The effects however are bogey, that car at the start was very plastic with bad integration into the environment and very unrealistic movement. I guess that was the point.
yeah, I don't think realism is high on the BEP's radar in any sense.
"Pulp Fiction sample"
Dick Dale deserves a little more credit.
Why all the hating? This song rules. And I'm not the sort of person who would normally go on record saying that a Black Eyed Peas song "ruled." But have you ever driven fast while listening to this song? It's perfect!
Which is why I really enjoyed the first part of the video with the band screeching around the parking garage ("bogey" effects notwithstanding), and lost interest once it became all about the fight scenes. They could have driven around throughout the entire video and I would have been happy.
It's fine for the first 30 seconds whilst just using the sample... then the group start singing and you realise they've not got any contribution to make other than turning up (you can't ask the director to create something out of nothing). The BEP continue their ignominious plummet into noughties obscurity.
