Nerina Pallot "Everybody's Gone to War" - Dir. Marc Klasfeld
crap
dude, that was great. totally took the song and made something fun and didnt take itself too seriously. vidophobe, how about expanding on why you think it sux...
I didn't really like it either, but that's because I think it is a serious topic and I don't like the idea of making it into something fun. I don't blame Klasfeld since that's his style, but I don't think he was a good fit for this kind of song.
My "comedic" style will never please everyone and I guess thats the point. I've always found satire the best way of learning about this crazy world we live in - And nobody else even attempts it in music video. Be it Carlin, Pryor or yes, Howard Stern, satire provokes, enlightens, delights and pisses people the fuck off. Behind all that fun there is a point, always better made with comedy in my humble opinion.
Better than that Green Day tripe.
"Nobody else even attempts it in music video". I presume you're speaking of satire. Which is not true.
Finding direct, literal satire is really tough in music video, for 2 reasons: The 90's saw the post-modern takeover, and satire gets lost in that self-referential mix; and satire can so easily become cliche.
Some names: Spike Jonze, "Weird Al" Yankovic (parody v satire?), Foo Fighters vids, Windowlicker (for sure), the Gorillaz in their entirety, Genesis "Land of Confusion" "Jesus He Knows Me", Klasfeld, any vid that satirizes culture/tv/celebrity/rappers (lots of those), wasn't U2's whole ZOOTV a bit satirical? .....
Devil's advocate, here, Marc
uh...thats not Marc
parody and satire are pretty different. The best example of Parody is Ali G, he takes the form of the interview and destroys it revealing just how scripted everything "real" is. Parody is the last phase in a technique of filmmaking before it becomes totally unbelievable and in effective.
So obviously this video is not parody. If anything it's an obtuse comedy which reminds of a student film. Dude, they're in the supermarket and like... it's a war! cheezy is a word that comes to mind.
ummmmm, did marc klasfield just compare himself to pryor, carlin and stern?
Well, really we don't know if it's Marc or not, but I'll play along. That seems to be the only thing one can do until better evidence emerges..
If anyway cares to verify if that's Marc or not, e-mail me at info //AT// director-file //DOT// com and let me know the details.
